Cigarettes question

Chewing tabacy.
@sestoppelman
I still can't understand why y'all chews tabacy. It would taste like shit. If I tried that I would end up like at @Bullthrower338 eating Vegemite. I would be running around for a week kicking my arse to get the taste out of my mouth.

Bob when I was 10 or 11 my dad chewed. One day he held me down in the driveway and forced what seemed like half a can of Skoal into my mouth. He then held my mouth shut till I swallowed a big gulp. Over the next spinning hour I somehow managed to not puke, but wish that I had.
When all this was over he told me that chewing was a bad habit, and that a lot of my friends would start doing it in about a year or two. But chances are that I would never try it after his “lesson”
He was right, ever third boy in middle school chewed tobacco, and I never tried it.
Dad has since quit.

Your dad is a hard man!
When I was about 12 I tried my hand at smoking some of my moms cigs and got sicker than a goat!
She came to my room to see what the matter was, I told her. She laughed loud and long.
I thought that was pretty mean.

Not really. But he did not want me chewing.
And today I appreciate it.
I’ve heard of parents that caught their kids smoking and then made them chain smoke a whole pack. I would have puked for sure on that one.

Dont include me in that stuff, I tried it once years ago, Copenhagen, and nearly croaked! Bovril would be preferable!
@sestoppelman
Vegemite is far better than bovril, Marmite or promite. At least Vegemite is Australian not that pommy shit

Curious on this issue because I've read every safari how to book I can find prepping for my first trip next year. Many suggest buying a few cartons of prerolled filter cigarettes to give to camp staff, etc. as many of them smoke hand rolled and appreciate the gesture. Don't smoke myself but was thinking of taking smokes for that reason. Is the info wildly inaccurate, out of date or simply region specific (SA vs Namibia for example)?

@Action Bob
Since I started vaping in now spend less than 100 bucks a month. If I was still on the smokes that would be around 500 bucks a fortnight.
Now days I can't even stand the smell of cigarettes. I tried one a few months back and asked myself how I stood the shit for 40 years.
I still get my nicotine hit but a lot cheaper. I actually taste food now.

Just tell our darling little Gina how much she would save. Better still take a photo of a shit load of smokes and the cost and a photo of a rifle the same price or a hunt of equivalent value.
Put the 3 photos in front of her and tell her to choose the one she wants Raz Vape. If she picks the smokes you have a hard battle.
Bob
travelers are allowed to bring in up to 200 cigarettes (1 carton) duty-free for personal use. If you plan to bring 4 cartons, this will exceed the limit, and you will need to declare the excess at customs. You may be subject to duties and taxes for the extra cartons. It's best to declare everything when you arrive to avoid issues. Traveling with Mr. X should help ease the process, but be sure to follow the customs guidelines to ensure a smooth entry.

Let’s see. They live on $10 a month in wages, but a pack of US smokes is what, $12-$15? Oh, and of course they live in a prime tobacco region where domestic cigarettes are less than $1 a pack?

Yeah, No. Don’t bring cigarettes.

Bob when I first read that I thought you said Licking not kicking.

Left me wondering whether you are that flexible, how long your tongue is, or the geometry of you arse;)

I have taken 4 cartons with no problem. However, I purchased 4 cartons for less than the price of one carton here at the duty free store last trip! I wore patches on the flight. Good luck!
@Just Gina - I went on a couple hunting trips with a good friend that smoked, I had always packed all My hunting clothes in plastic then sprayed down with “Scent Killer” before stepping out to hunt…. When my friend killed a nice bull elk on day 3 of our hunt (while smoking) —- I thought “why bother with scent control”? Also considered taking up smoking !
I still have Never smoked but I have stopped making any efforts to control scent (except watching wind direction)… The money I’ve saved Not buying that scent eliminating “Marketing Genius” crap has funded a lot of ammo.

Bob you really are a Jokester if you think I have any where near that type of control over her;)

Hmmm, just how hard do you have to kick yourself in the arse to get that taste out???

Are you in danger of losing teeth;)

Yeah, y'all outa be using smokeless tobacco like me. You can use it on planes, trains and automobiles with no fuss. Or, use the pouches for those two day plane flights or two week cruises to Africa. No lighters required and if you swallow a little, it'll keep you from getting intestinal worms, or so I've heard. LOL

Last I checked they don't allow chewing on airplanes. I snuck it last time, but next time will be 17hrs so may get caught. I don't know what the limit is for chewing tobacco. I doubt I can buy America's Best ( formerly Redman before that became racist ) in SA and Namibia so I'm bringing 6 pouches. Gunna risk it I guess

I too have hunted with a guy who smoked for many years. He quit ten years ago but even when he smoked WHILE elk/deer hunting, he managed to get his animal on a regular basis. Maybe he was lucky with the wind direction all those years or my guess is the animals don't know what cigarette smoke is so it doesn't spook them. Same with campfire smoke on your clothes and distance gun shots. They often smell fires burning in the mountains and hear thunder often in their habitat. From my experience, movements by the hunter will spook them way more often than any of the above factors.

I brought five cans of smokeless tobacco to Africa and I use it when flying. One can will last me almost a week. Chewing tobacco may be more problematic because you have to spit more? But I wouldn't bank on being able to buy any in Africa so I think bringing your own is a good idea.

A far cry from the 30 CARTONS of Chesterfield cigarettes Robert Ruark described as bringing along in his baggage for his 1953 African Safari. LOL

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
