I do not get not having a provision for QD mounts from the factory on a medium bore double with express sights.

It’s not a sightless bolt gun. The sights are meant to be used. Having a fixed scope mount doesn’t make much sense.

I know it’s the cheaper route but when you’re spending $10k+ on a rifle pivot mounts are an after thought.

The built-in Talley bases on the Iphisi may be unscrewed after which you may use the same exact sighting system as the Elan--i.e., Recknagel, which means pivot, Swaro rail, Weaver bases, etc. So with the Iphisi you really have two scope-mounting systems in one--but if you don't feel like spending five to seven hundred dollars you have the option of going Talley.

Interesting rifle, I'm already considering a second Chapuis double, another Brousse but chambered in 375H&H. I'm now wondering if I should wait to see if Beretta Australia are going to bring this model into the country. I'll ask the Premium Product Manager the question and see what sort of response I get, if I get any valid info I'll be sure to share it to this thread.

Tom some time back an Outfitter did a Zoom or such type meeting with a limited number of members who signed up. Just an idea.

Product manager for Chapuis in Australia has advised the price point for the Iphisi model in Australia will be very similar to the price of a Brousse chambered in 375 and will be available for order this year with an estimated delivery time of 6-8 months.

Hi Tom, I am a real novice at doubles but I am somehow the representative of our local group that are all keen to own one. The Iphisi is of particular interest in that:
1. It is in 375H&H mag, which qualifies for all big game and is a ubiquitous round readily available.
2. It has provision for scope attachment so that at least one barrel can be a longer range one.
3. It is without frills.
4. The price point, at just sub US$10k is very important.

The bit I need confidence upon, so that I can at least convey it honestly, is reliability. I know that Chapuis has a great reputation, but how does one convey it in the Iphisi since it is new? For me the clincher would be a third point on the locking system, like the Heym's Greener bolt. I am a bit paranoid about opening actions!

Hello, Kevin--great questions. The action of the Iphisi is exactly the same as that on Chapuis' time-tested Brousse/Jungle models--i.e., their standard dangerous-game action.

The heart of the action's locking system is a wide bar, about 2mm in thickness, that slides forward when the top lever moves to the closed position:

This bar engages a recess in the underside of the block:

Other than cosmetics, the Iphisi action is exactly the same as that on the "Brousse" and "Jungle" models, which have been around for decades. We call these models respectively by the commercial names of "Elan Classic" and "Elan Artisan" in the USA:

In all, the Chapuis action is quite different from your typical Anson & Deeley and variants, mostly because it is a "Blitz" type action rather than a traditional boxlock.

Everytime I see a pic of a Chapuis double, I wonder why the mfg. doesn't look at a classic English double or even a Heym 89 to see what a forearm and pistol grip should look like. It wouldn't cost any more to build an English style and I can't imagine how anyone would prefer the current design to an English classic.

Why does everything have to be about the English design? I absolutely love the style of the Chapuis doubles, my honest opinion is they are one of the best looking doubles on the market. I'm glad there are manufacturers out there doing their own thing, it would be pretty boring if all that was on offer was the same style across all manufacturers.

I’m very interested in one of these. I would really like to know how the adjustable regulation system works on these, I know there are different ways to do this and I’m curious what Chapuis went with? Could you shed some light on this please Tom?

I’ll probably have to import one from the US into Canada if I do want one as the Canadian distributor for the Beretta group is typically not very responsive…..

As an aside, what would delivery time likely be on a Chapuis Oural in .270? I’ve tried contacting Chapuis directly but never received a reply.

I’ll try that. My French is quite rusty, but I’m sure I can manage.
