Just sent my Winchester m70 pre 64 to Hart barrels to have a new barrel, action done and gun pillar bedded. 24” Barrel in .280 Ackley Improved. They do it all. Can’t wait! Great people at Hart barrels in N.Y
Question is stay stainless and just have action blued or have it Cerokoted in the gun Blue color that is offered?

A great project :) I Cerokoted my stainless barrel to avoid the two different looks. I am happy I did as it looks uniform.

I have a model 70 classic stainless off being Cerakoted now. Gloss
Your decision. But I prefer blue or black

I really like the practicality of cerakoat. I am going to get a lot of my blued rifles done in cerakoat as its a lot easier to mange in damp conditions.

The first build where we went straight to cerakoat was my sons 458 win and we are very happy with how that turned out. The colour on his is "Elite Midnight".

Really thinking Cerokote as that rifle is beautiful and looks like real bluing. Thank you!

Favorite is SS that I then cerakote. Belt and suspenders.

I’m

not to get off subject but this is my custom.458 on mark x great actions!
Yes, they are great actions. The one I posted above is my sons 458. I have three custom builds of my own on Zastava M70s.

I would have it Cerakoated.

Zero worry there. Most don’t cerakote those areas. But if you do it will rub but be slick and cycle better than before.

Also make a micro slick product made for coating actions.

Ionbond is another option for the action.

Roosterlund, I’m traditional and heavily influenced by the look and beauty of a rifle. If your rifle has a nice wood stock then a deeply blued/high luster finish is what I prefer. It’s Not difficult to keep a blued rifle in good-rust free condition and has been done for 100+ years but it does require some extra care, extra cleaning especially after exposure to damp conditions. For care free - cerokote or butt ugly stainless can’t be beat, both very practical and look great with a plastic stock (kidding a bit as creosote looks ok on wood stocks). It’s personal taste and how much effort you want put into ”caring for” your rifle. My rifles are “Swimsuit Models” that can also cook (shoot straight)….you CAN have both !

I like the stainless in wood look very much. I’d coat the whole thing in titanium grey or some such.

The folks at Hart are great. You’ll get a good shooter back.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
