CCW/EDC Discussion Thread

I’ve recently moved from a G19 that I literally carried for decades to a G43… while I gave up some mag capacity, the thinner profile and lighter weight make it a dream to carry…

while I gave up some mag capacity

Shield Arms S15s with their metal mag catch...... I HATE the idea of changing things on a Glock, but pick one up and run a couple hundred rounds through it and see if you like it. I've been really happy with mine.

PSA makes a 15 round mag too. Haven't tried theirs.

Just saw you said 43 not 43X. Never mind!

I don't know if this will get moved or not as it's not directly hunting related.

What is everyone's EDC setup these days?

I recently got my CCW in NJ which is very new thing for us.

Gun: Sig P365X (stock)
Holster: Tier 1 Xiphos Elite w/ 2 Ulticlip 3's.
Position: AIWB

I recently switched to the 2-clip Tier 1 from a 1-clip Vedder Lighttuck.

I renewed my initial Tennessee CCW Permit to lifetime as the laws for carrying here in Tennessee were in the process of changing.

I carry a Taurus 4 - 1/2 inch 44 mag, or a Para Odinance Double Stack 45 ACP, or a S&W 22, or a Walther 22 auto. It all depends on the intent, location, and the situation as to which firearm, the number of mags or speedloaders, and type of ammunition I carry at any given time.

Each firearm has a distinct type holster for carrying concealed as does the mag or speedloader pouches for the respective firearm.

I prefer and use a cross draw setup of sorts. Depending on my method of carrying depends on where my additional ammo is located. However, in general my extra ammo is conviently located opposite my firearm.

I still have 2 of 4 different types of shoulder holsters. After several discussions with LEOs regarding and trying an ankle holster; Personally, I'm not a fan of shoulder, chest, and ankle holsters. I actually detest them for a variety of reasons. Mainly because I find them clumsy, slow to draw from and interference with or trying to clear clothing while trying to employ my weapon efficiently.

I have been shooting and carrying several different potential EDC candidates of late. On paper the Sig P365 checked all of the boxes but with my lack of trigger discipline I am consistently off center of target.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the Stoeger STR9-MC. I don't care for adjustable sights on a carry piece but the ability to lower the rear sight was a bonus to quickly get on target. My sight pusher will not begin to drift the rear on that Sig P365.

Yesterday was the first range trip with the Stoeger STR9-MC vs the H&K CC9. As long as no reliability issues surface both are solid choices IMHO. The H&K is going to win out but not by a huge margin.

For me a proper magazine loader is mandatory to be able to get the maximum rounds downrange in a minimal amount of time. I can't say enough good things about SpeedBeez if they have a model designed for the magazines you use.

I got some strange looks at my LGS when I went to pick this one up. I told the guys that for deep concealment I have a custom banana hammock (Speedo) that I keep a Glock model 40 tucked under my junk when I go to the beach. In the interest of comfort I wanted to try something smaller.

I have had good luck with Speer Gold Dot in different platforms and calibers. The Gold Dot was not on the list of recommended ammo for the little Seecamp LWS380 but I had plenty laying around.

At least I had the foresight to bring a glove for my firing hand. Look at how rough this thing is on cartridges in the mag. I would suggest you save this one for last of the range session because the trigger guard will work on your finger like those Gold Dots.

How do you avoid flagging people when you draw? Assuming you end up drawing at a crowded restaurant and there is a robber in front of you.

I assume you mean sweeping people with your muzzle?

You always turn your left side toward the threat for a fast and safe draw.

It's the best all around carry method.......especially when we have to drive a car..

Guess, it depends on your shooting stance. Turning one side or other to the target would screw me up as I have shot tens of thousands of rounds each year using a different stance (square to the target).

You can see from the video below that my feet and body are square to the targets unless I am on the move and even then, my body is still square. I know this is a competition video but that training translates, I even use a handgun with the same manual of arms (single action, double stack) for EDC. Top is my competition gun in .40 S&W and below is my EDC in 9mm.

Nice.

I prefer the Weaver Stance and cross draw.

To each his own.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
