Cartridges you just hate

Well, 6,5CM & 308, not for theyr merits or metrics, just because usually the owners tend to teach me that I'm wrong using (to say) a 7 Rem or a 300Win, when I could / should send a small, high bc, super accurate bullet up to x000 meters and kill an Elk on the other zip code. I just want to use a good old heavy and large bore and feeling safe and confident. That's just me.
BUT I do love 6,5x57 and 30.06 - theyr owners are usually pretty good people LOL

.22 birdshot. Anyone ever actually able to kill a bird with that stuff?
Hundreds ! Maybe thousands. Used to clean out the dairy barns of starlings at night time, .22 Ruger Single -Six in one hand and a flashlight in the other. No danger of penetrating steel or aluminum roofing, but deadly on birds at close range. Also deadly on rats and mice.

Not a fan of belted cartridges, ones that end with Weatherby, anything over .500 and finally any with snob appeal.

How did you get close enough to kill them? Presumably they were in the rafters.

6.5 “Needs-more” a/k/a 6.5 Creedmore

Yep, at night time they were roosted in the rafters against the roof. Shine a flashlight on them, blast them with .22 shotshell from 10 to 15 feet. I hate starlings, some of the worst pests there are around farms. Used to fill 5 gallon buckets with the dead ones after a night of shooting them. Oddly enough, the 22 shot seemed more effective out of the 6.5 inch revolver barrel as compared to a longer rifle. Although I have a smoothbore "routledge" bore .22 LR Remington 121 pump rifle specifically designed for shot, it is quite effective at close range.

I’ve always been one that wanted something different, and never liked to go with the crowd. So I’m not a fan of the 6.5 creedmore (never shot one) or any of the new PRC. Even though I’ve never shot one. I’m not a fan of the new long range craze. Shooting is fine. Hunting . . . The fun is getting close

I used to want one of everything. Now I want a legacy rifle or two that I can shoot everything with.

If I win the lotto I want a Martini in 338WM, a 404, and a new Rigby Shikari in .470 ;)

17 HMR - such an annoying use of what should have been a 22LR rifle

22 Magnum - either use a 22LR or a real rifle caliber

380 ACP (9mm Kurz, if you will)

222 (you guys do know we have 223 now, right?)

243 Win (admittedly, I own 3 of them, but they're shiite, according to @Bob Nelson 35Whelen )

257 Weatherby, and all Weatherby Magnums from here on out and continuing in perpetuity

7mm Remington Magnum - a perfectly good waste of 7mm bullets that could have been used in 7x57

264 Winchester Magnum - see comment above

416 Rigby - I used to love this caliber, but since 375H&H is God's caliber and the next logical step up is 458WM, why bother?

Anything beyond 458WM (is just arrogance. Flaunt it if you got it, but I'll cheer you on from afar).

;-)

I have a dislike….more of a "don’t care for" the 30-06 and the 300 win mag, also the 30-30. There is nothing wrong with them, to me they are overrated and dull. My 30-06 is likely to become a wr318 which to me, is more interesting, my 30-30 is long gone. 300 wind bag brass I use to make 280 nitro disposable brass

Agreed on 30-30 win. Nostalgic, but of little significant impact

I don't care for gimmicks. More of an old fashioned guy I guess. My house is full of antiques that I restored. I shoot the 30-06 my dad made for me. May be boring but perhaps the most versatile and effective caliber ever developed. It is historical and supremely effective. There's a reason the 30-06 is boring ... damn good reason. It works. The 6.5 Cr will eventually go the way of electric hair curlers but the 30-06 will still be very much alive when my great grandkids are hunting ... in THEIR seventies.

Never. Maybe a sparrow from point blank range. I think it's mostly good for spiders and such.
I was gonna say I have heard of it referred to as to as Rat shot.

@cash_tx No need to hate the .222, it’s a mighty round and was the go to in Australia for many years. It won’t die here as anyone older than me used them. I did own one, my brother still does and I have a mate who still shoots Roos professionally with a .222.
Most roo shooters used .222 into the 80,s when .223, military rounds and affordable rifles made the .223 make sense.
It’s still around though it wained in popularity and availability.

And, for @93marlin and others who just can’t like the 6.5creedmoor I’m in the same boat. I am not trendy, much less a trendsetter and not planning on owning one.
I actually believe it has its merits and availability is certainly one of those.
I’ve watched the comparisons on YouTube and I believe with the right load and firearm combinations it still has its merits used accordingly.
Myself, I don’t want one. I plan to have a .260rem for target shooting in defiance of not having a creedmoor.
What I don’t like is the nonsense claims and promotion of it being more than it is.
I was even told it will outdo any of the geriatric .30’s, when I asked how I did not get an answer.

There are a lot who don’t like .308. Like the .223 it has wide following in Australia. It was used extensively for full bore target shooting along with being offered in semi autos when they were available to responsible shooters. There must be tons of .308 sporters in use here because it just works and is available and affordable. It’s common as muck but it still does the job and for a one gun hunter relying on factory ammo it makes sense.

I don’t “Hate” any of the rifles. There are lots I would love to have and plenty I would pass over. It’s just about what suits your needs and style.

Oh many many birds, rats & some snakes, only yesterday shot one in my shed, but it does depend a bit on the .22LR you use it in, some are much much better than others.

I wouldn’t have thought any good in a pistol let alone a revolver but if it works for you, I blew my ears out with a Colt Anaconda .44mag shooting shot shells at Ptarmigan & Grouse in Alaska, don’t think I killed a Ptarmigan but got a Grouse, still you can kill them with a stick !

I very much hate the 8x68S & a little less the 30/378 Weatherby never seen so much wounded game than hunters using the 8x68S !

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
