Cape buffalo fees

That's how I got started, bought a cheap auction from Numzaan not having a clue what I was getting into. In 6 days I'll be making my third trip to SA, this time and last time with KMG

I think the details of the package would be helpful. I saw one of their auctions for a Sable hunt and I think 5 days go for a little over 1500. So that is an awesome buy and they need to make it up somewhere.

My advice is do the animals on package, pick 2 or 3 lower price animals and have a lot of fun. Then upon return start planning your next trip for some of the more glamour species with an outfitter with lower trophy fees.

@Bignut can you disclose your package details? How many days and how many animals included and for what cost? High trophy prices coincide with zero day fees often....but it can even out in the long run.
My first hunt was an auction buy. cost was about normal to the deals here, and when I inquired direct with them his cost were much less than the online posted prices on the site. You may be able to work more of a package deal with him if you send an additional wish list, but always be prepared to see and want to hunt something that isn't on that list and know the prices.
5 days of hunting, 2 or 4 people
$500. Dollar trophy credit
$360. Fee per person for rides to and from airport
Must shoot 2 animals, or pay $260. Per day fee
May add 5 more days to the hunt.
I may be missing something, but this is pretty close.

As I read this you purchased $500 in trophy fee credit and basically a guaranteed minimum of $520 in day fees (or shoot 2 animals PER DAY= 10 over 5 days), thus a $1050 package. Cheapest animals are jackal and porcupine that equal around $650 +- for your 2 animals per day.

Not sure what you paid for the $1050 value but i might be thinking of bailing and cutting your losses. You might could end up with a better deal somewhere else even with eating your auction amount paid. IMHO

Think you are misreading. As I see it there has to be 2 animals taken on the entire hunt (probably for each hunter) or the daily fee will be charged.

Either way the trophy fees are pretty high and the transport per person is excessive especially for S.A.

For 2 people...
360 per person airport travel....Impala at 550 and blesbok at 680, two of the more common animals taken, you're at $1590 minus the 250 in trophy credit....$1340 total for 2 animals and a 5 day hunt....plus what you paid for the auction.

I dont suppose you care to share what the winning bid was?

Now look at the latest offer on here for 2 people!

To make this work financially you should shoot only two animals and those should be two of the lowest priced. I don't know if things like porcupine count so assuming they don't I would shoot a common duiker and and impala and call it quits.

Or you could forget about the money aspect and just go and have a good time.

Or....if you want to hunt more species for a little less...

Go on this hunt for 5 days....then add 5 or 7 more days with a sponsor deal here that is in the similar area. See two outfitters while paying 1 airfare...

Spot on @TTundra this would make for an excellent hunt.

Ok, for the auction price you get five days of hunting and a $500 trophy credit with a requirement of at least two animals taken (per hunter?). The two or four people implies to me probably one hunter one PH and a non hunter or two hunters one PH and two non-hunters, but that's a guess. The $500 basically covers a warthog and things get steep fast after that. Everyone want to tske a kudu their first hunt, but I wouldn't at that price. I'd have a chat with the outfitter and talk prices, if those are firm I'd either go for two or three more modest priced animals beyond the warthog and try for a buffalo next time or I'd cut my losses of the auction cost and start looking into the deals section here to get exactly what I wanted without the confusing math and regrets.

I just got some paperwork for the safari we won, and it unfortunately looks like buffalo are off the menu. I've always thought if I made it to Africa, I had to hunt a buff. But at $15,000 trophy fee I would be remiss in not sending the kids to receive a higher education!

Is this a typical trophy fee for buffalo? Boy talk about heartbreak

Heck no as others have also answered.

I found a hunt for 8,000 in SA any hard boss bull 38 to 42 inch. On 30,000 acres. I think I would rather spend more and go and hunt free range buff.

Average buffalo bull full inclusive price is around 10 k, occasionally less, occasionally somewhat higher. ( plus/minus 2 k) All inclusive means, trophy fee plus, day rates.

This is based on my reasearch, in last two years, various offers including this great forum. I am planning buff, sometime in the future.... agw... Long term target!

That pricelist was extreme. My trip to Limpopo 2018 was: Blue WB 6.500, Impala 3.000, Warthog 3.000 and Blesbuck 4.000. Notice, amount in Rand (ZAR).

Hi Bignut,

We have offered some very unbeatable prices on all of our free ranging hunts. Check us out we are in the process of possibly taking over another concession area. We might have just what you want at a price that you can afford. Unfortunately we are sold out for 2019 and with inflation in Zimbabwe running about 75% who knows what pricing will be for 2020.

Cheers, Lon

All outfitters have an al a carte price list and then will cut deals on a package. Put together a wish list of animals and email it to the outfitter and see if you can get a package price, you have nothing to lose and something to gain by doing it. At this point the operator has donated a hunt and hasn’t made a dime, he wants you to show up and shoot a list of animals.

Gray area there. By 2 hunters showing up, they are guaranteed to receive:

$620 for the airport transfer fee.

Also guaranteed either:
$1300 in trophy fees- 4x cheapest animal listed at $325 (jackal). (Arguably will shoot minimum 2 of/or lower cost antelope/animals; Impala, Blesbok, Warthog, etc which will mean $2000-$2500 minimum in trophy fees.)
or
$260 a day for not taking 2 animals- Which can be $1300 or higher total, potentially.

The outfitter is guaranteed minimum of $1920 if 2 hunters show up for 5 days, possibly $2600+ depending on only 2 animals taken each.

If they don't show up, the dates are ideally rebooked.

Some donated hunts can be great deals, good deals, OK deals, or learning experiences. I truly feel that if this hunt is paired with another 5 or 7 days with a sponsor outfitter here, it can be made into a good deal and great experience.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
