Cape Buffalo Cow or Bull Giraffe?

I'd be interested in the opinions of the group as to what you would choose and why?
Buffalo cow.
Why?
1. Buff is dangerous game, giraffe is not.
2. Less space required for trophy.

I've had to cull giraffe, and shooting them wasn't the most pleasant experience I've ever had.
Shooting bulls are ok, but having to shoot a heifer that looked inquisitively at me through her long lashes was the only animal that I seriously felt terrible about. I might have even closed my eyes before I pulled the trigger.

I've never hunted buff but plan to in 2026, but I have hunted a huge bull giraffe. I thought it was one one the coolest things I have ever experienced. We looked for two days to find this certain giraffe in the mountains and after the hunt watching the guys process it was an experience in itself.

My second safari we were observing a couple of giraffe while hunting for waterbuck. The owner was along and remarked that if the drought continued, he would need to cull a couple. I said the hide might make a nice bedspread. He didn't think so. Their hide is very thick and would require a lot of shaving to thin the skin. He said in former days giraffe hides were quite sought after for making bullwhips. "Oh yeah. You Boers were big on oxcarts." He smiled. "Market demand was primarily for 'labor relations'."

Depending on the game farm, you can hunt a buffalo, but you will shoot a giraffe.

Depending on the game farm both can be "shooting" or could be hunting.

When you get off a truck and walk and stalk you will find a Giraffe can be hunted.
Certainly, if there is a large population and they are regularly hunted.
Hunting one specific bull Giraffe was a several day affair when done on foot in my experience.
From a truck, its shooting.

The same applies to Buffalo.
Drive up, step off and snipe XYZ game animal. Pretty boring.

Get out and walk and stalk to get up close and personal. Try and hide behind a bush from a Giraffe!?
It's rather tough to do.
Granted, most populations are not really hunted often. They are culled.

Make sure it is the kind of experience you are looking for.

Good luck.

All great answers before mine. Giraffe hide, nothing even close like it, so from a trophy display, go that way, but it's so fricking big, where do you lay it down, etc.
Cow Buff, as said, as dangerous, usually more eyes potential, and need a good shot or a wild day could make it interesting. So danger over trophy skin beauty. eye of the beholder, no one can judge, only you.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
