Bull Elephant Hunting Calibers. What Rifle Would You Choose?

I had the talk with my PH, although I'm shooting a tuskless, but either way it is a brain shot or no shot for me. I have no interest in shoulder shooting an elephant.

458 Lott with 500gr CEB solids at 2180fps worked very well on this bull at 10yds yesterday. Full story (report) to come when I return home later next week.

I used a plain Jane CZ .375 H&H. I had a 1-4 Leopold vx-2, but took it off while closing on the elephant and went open sights.

Big tuskless cow, so not a bull.

I'd love a double, but it was either buy a double, or buy something cheaper and actually hunt.

I shot her in the lungs in the jess at 12 yards. She ran 100 yards and fell over dead.

I used a 50 Alaskan lever gun the first time but the next one will be with my 500NE. The 416’s and the 458 Lott are pretty affordable and controllable for the average hunter. I’m hearing about a lot more use of the 450/400 doubles also.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
