Building a 470 Capstick

Mr. Crank,
I oversized the barrel 31/1000 in the barrel channel and I think lengthen the breech a tad. So more meat for the Von Mises stress. Matrix will be building the rifle and does not mind a bit of sanding:)
I have a photo from ur post in the other nameless forum of the measured cz550 mag barrel dimensions and I have 375 takeoff barrels but the dimensions seem to still vary and I adjust with the B&C channel measurements.
Below is the finished dimensions. I think there is about 1” more at either end.

They must of got busy, as I think was 3 weeks.
However, we were experimenting with duplicating from a 3D printed barrel, so maybe that got their attention. Unfortunately, even with a .375” support rod thru the center, there was still to much flex, so they contoured by hand.

A few years ago I built a 470 Capstick using a Weatherby Mark V Safari 375 Wby that was laying around. Spun off the 375 barrel and sent it to Mcgowen to make a 470 barrel with the same profile. Had to tweak the mag box to handle the straight wall 470 case. No other changes had to be made. Cerakoted all the metal and repainted the stock. It fed and ran great with 500gr Northfork softs and flatnose solids. Took a buff at 30 yards, giraffe at 55 yards and a surprise eland at 240 yards.

The 470 Capstick is a great round. On the buff, the second shot was a solid as he was departing directly away from us. The Northfork flatnose solid entered near his tail and was recovered in his neck muscles about 6" away from the base of the skull...amazing penetration.

The only issue I ever had with the 470 was finding good brass. I had to use Quality Cartridge brass and it was.......less than ideal. Brass was thin and only lasted 1-2 shots....would not hold either the resize or neck tension. For cases that did hold the resize, the bullet would often spin inside the case.

JDN,
QualCart is all I ever found for proper headstamp, saved for inspectors.
I used Norma and Hornady basic cylindrical mostly.
Great work using your 470 Capstick for DG and PG.
Great North Fork bullets.

Does anyone have a starting load for the 470 Capstick, a 500 grain Swift A-frame and H4895 powder?

It's the factory Weatherby stock that I had cerekoted and some webbing added. For a factory stock it is pretty nice.

Got my rifle back! Hopefully it shoots as good as it looks!

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
