Buffalo rifle show and tell

I love double rifles and I like to get very close.. Shot this one at 25 meters..Krieghoff .470.

Some great buffalo rifles in here gents, and enjoy seeing both the variety as well as the essential similarities.

Still a buffalo hunting novice, yet sincere enthusiast, so no cemented feelings on what necessarily makes a proper buffalo rifle. I am making headway as to what I personally prefer though. I like a low power scope with option for quick detach should I want/need to roll with open sights. I also like using enough gun, which thus far I’m quite smitten with my Rigby big game rifle in 416 and use a Swaro Z8i 1-8x24 optic in Rigby/Recknagel quick detach rings. Its quickly dispatched everything I’ve pointed it at so far, so zero complaints.

First two photos are my bull from 2024, the other two bulls were from this May.

Awsome photos and a beautiful rifle.

My Buffalo set up is a left handed Ruger African in 375 Ruger.
Scope is the Leupold VX5 2-10 with the CDS and the fire dot.
Sling is by Murray Leather. Very comfortable and super easy to adjust.
I used a Murray Leather cartridge belt. Super comfortable, did not know I was wearing it.
Ammo hand loaded, Barnes 300 Grain TSX @ 2550 fps.
This bull was taken at about 60 yards, with a single shot. He ran roughly 40 yards and dropped.

My buddy who was also using a 375 Ruger, shot his Buffalo with Hornady DGX 300 grain factory load. His bullet shed 52 grains of its weight. While the bullet stayed together the weight retention performance was mediocre. The Barnes TSX weighed 299.7 grains.

The bosses on that buffalo are amazing.

I know you're asking for people's actual buffalo experience more, and I don't have that, but this one is mine. It's a CZ Safari Classics 458 win with a 1-10x Maven LPVO. After shooting it quite a bit, the stock cracked at the tang. It was a very minor crack and could probably have been repaired pretty easily, but it gave me an excuse to get a nice stock put it on it. I got an exhibition grade bastogne walnut stock and it's currently being installed. I do have a sling for it with cartridge loops, but whether or not I use it remains to be seen. I'll go with the recommendation of the PH when I do my hunt next year.

Good thinking on all accounts. I would imagine you're pretty pumped for your first buffalo hunt next year?

I definitely am. It's just a little under a year out and it's about all I can think about.
