Buffalo charge

Couple of thoughts...

If he had stopped shooting after the first 2 shots, the bull would have likely kept on running and died in 5o yards or so.

Easy to get caught up in the adrenaline rush and keep shooting while he's still on his feet, been there, done that myself.

Easy to Monday morning quarterback it at a computer keyboard.

When you pull the trigger on a buffalo you really don't know what's going to happen afterwards.

Most times they run away; sometimes they don't

Glad it turned out OK and no one got hurt.

I don't post this to play Monday morning quarterback or criticize anyone. But I noticed in the video the gent with the bolt action seemed to double clutch the bolt on one cycle. Was this just a mistake on his part not fully cycling the bolt or was there a jam?

Probably a CRF Mauser ................ :E Angel:

It probably is a cf, but no matter what it is for that one fleeting second it wasn't operated correctly.

The r8 has by design taken care of that problem. It is somewhat almost impossible to not operate it hard and fast.

What a rush! At my age I probably would have had a heart attack before I got the last round off!

And that from a lion hunter? Cmon bro you would have nailed him!;)

Sadly it seems like the older i get the less excited i get. With the exception of money and politics which both seem to really get my blood pressure up!

In the heat of the moment, I have ‘short stroked’ the bolt myself in a stressful situation, and it looks like that’s what happened here, although I can’t be sure of course. It’s easy enough to do, but the key is to stay calm. That looks like what happened here - if you do that, you lose a second but no more. If you panic, of course, you may lose more than a second. . . The hunter here stayed calm, and got the shot off. Good for him.

Nice videos , I am fascinated by DG but never been near it.
Just grew.Lion and Grizzly are out of my means but fascinating none the less. (Rugs R Us)
An Aussie water Buffalo May be a possibility one day.

CMS Safaris/ Kazuma, Len Taylor PH, Carl Fredrick Nagel and a friend

Just back from a elephant hunt in Kazuma. I was to hunt with Buzz but a few weeks prior he snapped his achilles tendon. Buzz sent Len Taylor. Len whom I have not hunted with before turned out to be both a gentleman and also a very good elephant hunter. This hunt was for a big elephant bull in the 60 pound plus range but failed due to early rains in Botswana. The first 3 days we saw several big bulls in the 45-50 pound range and everything was looking good, but then it rained in Botswana and within 2 days all bulls were gone.
My friend came along for buffalo. One day we tracked an old dagga boy. Firstly the track led though thick gusu jess. then the track took us out in an large open plain. Here we found him sleeping. Len made a buffalo distress sound and the old bull got up. My friend shot him 4 times with a 416 RM all hitting in the heart lung area. I thought the hunt was over but in an instant it turned out a life or death situation. The bull charged head on. Len shoot a 458 lott in it chest and I followed with a 500 NE also in the chest. This only made the bull kick out but did not slow it down. The last shot on the video is actually two as Len and I shoot at the exact same time. Both of us hitting in the right eye. The bull went down 9 m from us.
Hope you enjoy the video.

Old mean MOFO! Gotta love those bulls, that's what makes it fun

Likewise, as far as never hunted DG before. Never been to Africa YET, but the price values of an African hunt from what I’ve read here on AH, FAR outweigh anything DG or not, what you can find here in North America. I’m specifically referring to a guided hunt for big game species on private property here in North America. The prices are outrageous! That’s why I’m here on AH looking for an affordable big game hunting adventure, in addition to learning and sharing information. This is a GREAT website for all of that!

@CoElkHunter , i see that a bit. I wouldnt pay big fees to Hunt Buff in Australia, well not yet.
Ive mainly shot pest animal locally to get my fix. Where i live flights out of a small town or driving distance are a straight up cost.
People here said Africa is not as dear as you may think! They are a helpful bunch. I posted a cull hunt ad for 2020, that was a typo was meant to be 2022.
Many outfitters replied with various offers. I spoke more with @Game4Africa asking questions and options including an observer and day out at a wildlife park.
They offered me a package with some variety and quantity for a cull hunt and sighseeing. All inclusive like most safari offers.
People here are saying pricing is good with current economic situation in Africa. It May be good for a bit yet.
These people rely on this for a living we need to support them. We need safari operators for future generations that dream of Africa just like us!
All offers were considered and acknowledged. These people are willing to work for our business.
Dont look for reasons not to here cause this lot will rope you in, especially the hunters they will all tell you how good it is as they are planning subsequent trips, cant argue with that.
Im travelling in just 30days time

CBH,
Yes, I’ve seen MANY great offers here on AH but just not ready to pull the trigger just yet, so to speak. Your going to hunt in Africa in 30 days? Isn’t that the middle of your/their summer? Maybe I missed something?

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
