Hi all.
I have just gotten my hands on this old Brno zg47 chambered in the 7mm Mauser. My first of these rifles. Barrel, sights, receiver all very good and I am very impressed with the quality and feel... can easily see what draws people towards these old rifles!
The wood less impressive but this I knew as these were made for hunting and the focus was on the metalwork.
It has a laquered finish to the wood.
Did they come like this (laquered) from the factory?
I much prefer an oiled stock but also value originality and dont want to change anything if not coherent with history.
All the best, Ryan

It is hard to tell as even some factory early Brnos came so glossy they looked like lacquered finish almost. I always wondered about that. Since the whole rifle looks little used and the checkering does not appear to have been touched (not sanded or re-cut) I'd probably lean towards original. Difficult to say from photos. Either way you have one very nice rifle. Just enjoy it. ;)

HI all, here is a Short update on our America trip, I currently in Houston and have 2 more meetings here before movings North toward Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa, and from there I will head to Colorado and Idaho,I have been met with great hospitality and friendship, and have met several new and old clients and we are going to book the rest of 2025 season quick and have several dates booked for 2026!
That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
