Brno 375 H&H For Sale

Maybe I'm naive (well okay, we've had that discussion over on the double gun vs bolt thread) but what's with the ultra high scope rings? Isn't it hard to find the crosshairs and wouldn't it lead to putting the gun too low on the shoulder? I know the tacticool crowd goes for those on their black guns and maybe it makes sense for the games they play, but I don't understand it for an African gun. Perhaps the old fella had a whopper scope on it but for a 375? Wait, OP said the guy planned to hunt elk with it. The modern way to hunt elk seems to be to shoot into the next zip code so maybe he did put a telescope on it. I presume "A.A.L." from Philidelphia was the custom builder since BRNO are/were made in Czech land. Anyone know who he/they are/were? Just curious.

Lovely gun and seems to be a good price.

Edit: A.A.L. was undoubtedly the former owner who ordered the gun from BRNO. So I am naive after all.

I'm not sure why these rings are high as they are. Have seen some of the longer scopes with large objective hit the rear sight. That could have been the case here. That might have been the only method to make that combination work.

As far as the high rings on the black rifles. The stock does not have the drop of a traditional rifle. It is basically 0 drop, on top of that you have a handguard that needs to be cleared too. If you look at the sights for a black rifle you will also notice they sit up rather high too.
It just has different ergonomics that require more height to function comfortably.

Congrats to the buyer and seller!

You are, very. LOL But that is ok, we all had to learn at some point.

In addition to what @Inline6 said. Which is all correct. I'll add that those rings likely came standard with the rifle from Europe. Europeans often use very large objects scopes such as 50mm and 56mm. So they need high rings to mount those. They do a lot of night hunting,, often hunt when it is overcast, twilight, etc. so they want the large objectives to gather more light.

I fully agree, I like to mount my scopes as low as possible. I always expect to need lower rings than what come with.

That gun was a good buy. 602's in good shape are hard to find!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
