Bringing Warthog tusks to U.S.

I brought some back in my carry on 2 weeks ago. Had no issues.

I believe the Nazi TSA worker was overstepping his/her authority and wanted a new zebra rug for his/her house. A custom agent ok, a TSA rent a cop, not so much.

Does anyone know?
Is it legal to bring cleaned warthog tusks into the U.S. from Namibia in your luggage?
If it is part of a commercially made something or another then yes. If it’s a set of random warthog tusks then technically, it will have to be cleared.

If you absolutely, positively want to keep them, then do everything correctly.

If you don't mind risking them, just put them in you checked baggage and roll the dice.

I knew I was going on get stripped searched when I answered "yes" to questions on the CBD form 6059 concerning:

Do you have animals parts?
Have you been on a farm?
Have you been around wildlife or live stock?

They just waved me through at Washington Dulles at 2 a.m. .......

You can buy them anywhere and it’s legal.

I had no problem coming through O’Hare with them in my checked bag.
