Blaser Wood Stock - Upgrade

Did you find that list I made on Blaser buds with all the Blaser links? Gamsjagd is my handle over there.

There is a Hungarian stock maker that uses a CNC machine to make Blaser, Steyr, Tikka and so on stocks. You have to supply the metal action.

He is on there, I can't remember his name. He also has fantastic prices.

@Rimbaud, I was lucky to find a used (refinished) Blaser stock for what I thought was reasonable, 1k. I purchased the stock not knowing that the hardware of my current Blaser (Savannah) could not be used with the wood stock I purchased. Well, it turned out to be a bit of goose chase and looked everywhere for the hardware until someone at BlaserBuds gave me a point of contact with Blaser and I was able to get the necessary parts. Another interesting thing I learned through this ordeal was that the Savannah stock is attached to the receiver through the pistol grip, and the wood stock I had purchased through the butt tock. In the end, I ended with two complete rifles. Oops!

The reason I'm telling you all this, is to be ready/prepared just in case you find a wood stock for sale, and you'll have to source the hardware to put them together. And ask questions to make sure your R8 receiver will work with the wood stock. BTW, I've seen wood stock for sale at BlaserBuds.

In the end I am happy with the outcome, but I was not planning on owning two different R8s. Now I have a nice wood stock R8 and a Savannah synthetic for foul weather.

By comparison it is a tiny company, and the lions share of their market is here in Europe.

Their clothing lines are absolutely shit. Made for very benign weather. Dry and 40 degrees. For men that are 5'9 weigh 140 pounds and wear skinny jeans.

They had an opportunity to do something like Sitka, Kuiu, Harkila or Swedteam or even Merkel and failed.

Brother Hunters, I want to upgrade my synthetic stock and purchase a high grade woodstock. Just curious if anyone can share their experience doing this and working with Blaser and their retailers. I would like to select the wood in person, but it seems that is not possible, and that I will have to work through a retailer. When I had my AyA built, I hired a fitter to measure me for the stock. The No. 2 round action is thus instinctively accurate. I’ve never upgraded wood on a rifle, and thus don’t know if it makes sense to also get measured. In essence, I’m a newbie on this process and much appreciate any advice on issues to consider, and so forth. Lastly, I am a left handed shooter. Should any members have high grade Blaser woodstocks for sale that might work, I’d be interested. Also, curious if it is possible to have an independent stock maker create something for a Blaser, too. price of A1 pellet with delivery is another cost I’m trying to understand separately. Thanks as always for sharing some wisdom.

I went through a similar process, and I’d definitely recommend getting measured again. Even though you already have measurements from your AyA, a Blaser is a different platform, and a good fitter can make sure the length of pull, cast, drop, and overall dimensions suit you properly, especially as a left handed shooter. I’d work with a reputable Blaser retailer and ask whether they can show you several grades and options of wood before ordering. If you can’t select the blank in person, detailed photos and videos are probably the next best thing. An independent stock maker can certainly be an option as well, provided they have experience with Blaser actions. Personally, I’d put proper fit ahead of wood grade. Beautiful wood is nice, but a stock that fits you correctly is what you’ll appreciate every time you shoot it.

I'm not sure where you are located, but The Sporting Shoppe in RI might be able to help you. They are one of the larger distributors of Blaser rifles. So much so that they supplied the Blaser booth with rifles for DSC and SCI 2026.
