Blaser 500 Jeffery

How much does that thing weigh? Looks like you are struggling to hang onto it a bit.
Lo! 9.5 lbs. .. little short LOP. Not leaning into it much, just letting it do it's worst.
Nice machine however, love the 500 Jeffery!

When I let people shoot my big bores I set myself up for the shot and cut lines in the dirt with my boots. I hand the rifle over and let them get comfortable using my marks for a guide. I mark that stance so I know they are square with the rifle. Recording the shots is entertaining as well as informative. Sometimes guys do alittle 4 step shuffle.

Try adding a bit of weight to it, will be much more enjoyable to shoot.

This rifle took some time indeed to get in the pocket, and it's not an inexpensive learning curve. Unfortunately Everything has been put on hold.

Roll with it & enjoy. Congrats on your Blaser!

A bit of off hand shooting practice today, shooting steel swinging plates.
That's about as fast as I can shoot my 500, 3 shots in around 3-4 seconds, each shot around 3 inches apart at 50 meters. Maybe not as quick as a double? But has to be getting close, plus it has an extra shot. Love the Blaser R8!

Very smooth cycling for a large cartridge like that.

@Aussie_Hunter Nice shooting.
Good recoil control that makes for easier & quicker follow up shots.
It's obvious that you have been practicing.
Well done sir.

I’m impressed by the Blaser’s pull bolt system which seems to allow the shooter to stay focused on the scope better than a conventional bolt rifle when cycling?

I feel I shoot my bolt guns just as well but you are right, because it's a simpler movement it feels easier to stay on target and keep your eyes on target. But hey that's just me.

Congrats !!

Thanks @BeeMaa I have used it quite a bit in the field and on the range the last 7-8 months so I'll take the credit but I have probably also spent just as much time what I would call fine tuning the rifle to suit me. Out of the box I could shoot it ok but over time I have changed a few things - weight, recoil pad, optic mounts, optics and worked up a lot of different loads to try and find the sweet spot between muzzle energy, velocity and felt recoil. The load I am shooting here is my standard hunting load 535 grain RNSN Woodleigh at an average of around 2350fps, not a barn burner load for the 500 Jeffery but definitely not a reduced load either.

It takes time and practice to fine tune everything.
535 grain .500 caliber bullet moving at 2350 fps = dead whatever it hits.

That's great stance and form AH, well done.
To exhibit that level of control with a .500 takes quite a bit of practice, again, well done.
Great to see the butt NOT come off your shoulder between rounds.

Looks like good rifle control!
do you have a smaller caliber you can shoot on the R8 and post a video? I’m curious to see how much faster it will be for the same level of accuracy. I’d say nearly 1/2 the time.
Nah sorry at the moment I only have the 500 Jeff barrel, I have been considering buying another complete Blaser rifle in 30-06 though. It's definitely the next rifle on the wish list (y)

Start small and get the barrel, mag, bolt face, and scope mount! If you like it, a new stock can come later. I like that simplicity in the R8.
I agree, but sometimes you can get a deal on the entire package.
Even if it's not the barrel you want, but it should be in the same caliber group.
This is to avoid having to change a bolt head.
You can sell the unwanted barrel to fund the one you do.
And still be ahead in overall cost.

Wow! Nice rifle! Wouldn’t have thought Blaser made the R8 in such a large caliber?
Yep. It’s a huge selection plus there are custom barrel makers as well. So versatile.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
