Black owned hunting safari businesses?

I always heard Ford “ Found on Road dead”. With that said I have been left on the side of the road by dodge and Chevy but none of my fords. Knock on wood
I have been left on the side of the road by all of them, except for Studebaker...and I never owned one of them awesome trucks.

My mind is getting a little clearer every day so I will give my experienced opinion on Zim.

Many Safari co were raided and 51% of your business and assets were taken. Now the new owner took those assets, leases, cruisers, camps, etc. Now you are virtually out of business. We survived we were to small to be noticed.

The people that ended up with the concessions were political cronies. Are there ones out there I would worry about?
Those operators are mostly using foreign unlicensed in Zim. There is where the free for all starts.

Here is a short example, we had a two couple hunt for buffalo. We booked the camp, but unknown to us shared the camp. The unlicensed PHs from another country spent most of their time roaring thru the concession (ford 350). Shots were fired in our concession. Did color come into the mix yes, but it was criminal. Of two separate races.

Did their clients get there game, no. Did the game scout get a tip I hope not. The operator knows i know. The foreign hunters license plate are mow in the system. The white licensed PH lost a lot of respect. I no longer do business with the operator.

Can we not just leave it with integrity comes in all colors and races, but then here I am helping to keep it alive.

Yes Lon if the OP wanted to put his money towards a good local cause, he'd hunt with your wife;)

Or Opening Post, Opening Poster, you;)

Lon is suffering with cancer. His wife is a PH and working to keep the business open. I think Lon is doing his best to keep the business end up.

Lon has been a very active contributor on here for a while. I hope @Just Gina and I can hunt with them someday.....

Noticed my first post in this thread was deleted. What did I say that warranted that?

You'd be catching as much crap from everybody on this board if you'd asked about white-only outfitters and PHs. I've never met a more color-blind group of people in my life as hunters. "Tell me your stories. Show me your guns. Do you hand load? What's your pet load?"

Skin color shouldn't be a selection criterion for anything. At the USAF Academy, they've had a big push to get more black candidates accepted. Attrition rate for the black cadets is about 34%, and for white cadets is about 20%.

"How can we do a better job of retaining our black cadets?" USAF leadership is asking.

That's the wrong question to ask. "What is it about our selection process that's failing to identify candidates who don't have the wherewithal to suffer the rigors of 4 years at a military academy?" is the only appropriate question to ask. If you cannot identify the problem (the selection process), then any solution (geared towards retention in this case) is destined for failure.

If you go into any endeavor with skin color as a selection criterion (other than the arts - Channing Tatum would be as stupid of a choice to play Shaka Zulu as Idris Elba would be to play Henry VIII), you are merely increasing your probability of being disappointed in your selection.

However, when you attend a competitive school or program, attrition is expected, usually 25-35% or at least it was.

As per the article I was reading, USAFA attrition for white cadets is about 20%, and they somehow believe that the 33-ish% attrition rate of black cadets is attributable to a lack of support for them once they get in. I'd suggest that's pure rubbish. In their rush to get more black cadets, they admitting more black candidates who are marginal.

On a side note, Houston PD (where I used to be an officer) started this stupidity back in the mid-1990s. To get the minority numbers up in the academy, HPD started hiring (non-white) people who had deferred adjudication for felonies, started promoting people based on skin color. The best sergeant I worked for when I was in was a black guy, and he was pissed because he knew people would look at his chevrons and wonder if he actually earned them or if he was a pity promotion.

Sgt. Rideau was one squared away dude.

We started 120 freshmen and graduated 22. I don’t hear of many programs weeding folks out like that anymore.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
