Black or Blue Wildebeest

With just a little over a month to go until my first bowhunting trip to Africa, here is what I'm stressing about. If you only had an opportunity to take one, which would it be a blue or black wildebeest?
I know many would just say that will give you a reason to go back, but who knows how long that will take. Anyone have any cool mounts that would help persuade me?

Bring extra cash and take both! But if it can only be one, I'm a bit partial to the Black. The areas you can find them are much more limited than the blues.

For size and toughness the Blue is hard to beat. There is a reason they call the Blue a poor man's buffalo. Both are impressive animals in their own right,but a big bull Blue is as tuff as they come.

I think the black is a much grander animal than the blue. I've shot a few blues, but only one black and he was a fine beast. I did get a very good blue indeed with Bos en dal a couple of years ago.
I think a lot of it is in the stalk and the memories built therein, but if you have the choice take the black.

I would say both lol. But I would do a black, I already have a white bearded blue though. Still the black is my favorite.

That being said its all about opportunity. I wouldn't look a gift wildebeest in the mouth, so to speak.

I had a great experience in Zim last month when a BIG blue bull came up to about 30 yards from us. Head up, giving us a good look. He wasn't on the menu but the thought did cross a few minds about what he was going to do.
A grand sight indeed.

Both, I thought about taking one on my upcoming trip but decided I'm gonna wait till I can get both.

With it being a bow hunt I would take which either one gives me a chance. Black tend to like more opened areas and will take some planning to get a good one with a bow. The blue I would say you will get more chances at on your hunt. I have taken the blue and will do a black next trip. Had a friend take both last trip and the black was the one he wanted more until he seen a good blue then he made the hit list also.

I will tell you the black are just flat ass crazy the way they run around. can make for some fun hunting though. Good luck on your hunt

Good advice.

If you are in a place that has both, consider the black. More places in southern Africa have blue than black when deciding where your second trip will be.

I didn't read that it was a bow hunt...from my experience I tend not to pass on much with the bow, good luck and it is a great problem to have!

Great problem to have!! The exact quote I tell my wife when bringing home another trophy and she asks where I'm going to hang that. Or when a buddy asks what I'm going to do if I take a large animal in the middle of nowhere all by myself.

It sounds like if I get a good opportunity at a black I better send an arrow his way. If they are the more difficult of the two.

Me too!!! That's why I took a blue as the first animal on my first safari!!! Can't get more special that that!

I have to agree with everyone saying both! Having hunted both of them on my last trip it would be almost impossible to pick one. Both hunts were very different and I was surprised how different they are giving they are both wildebeest.

Take all three. Blue Black and Red....Hartebeest that is. Go for the "beest" slam.
