There is also a line between being a CONSERVATIONIST and being stupid! If you play with fire you will get burnt! So if you play with snakes you will get ??? Duh! Bit so one thing is for sure you won't be stupid forever.

Great photos. You have some nice looking snakes there. Do you get called to remove them from houses/public areas?

If you have any pictures with a gabon viper, ringhal etc. I would love to see them also.

Wheels yes i do get called to remove unwelcome snakes, from households as well public areas, all the snakes i remove i re locate into an environment that is both safe for the serpent as well as people, Unfortunately the area in which i operate is not habitat for Gaboons nor Rinkhals, so i don't get to catch them very often. i was However breeding both west and east African Gaboons for some time but again when something is your lifestyle you tend top take it for granted and as a result i don't have any pictures of them.

Cliffy i have been keeping breeding and conserving snakes since the age of 6, so for some 30 odd years.I know the reptiles with which i deal and i take the necessary precautions,i understand the consequences of if i do get bitten in a remote area, i know the risks and i manage them accordingly. Just as some people choose to hunt dangerous game everything has its risk, it all comes down to your ability knowledge,experience and confidence in dealing with the matter at hand..
Unlike what Bob believes, catching highly venomous snakes is not a job for the stupid, actually its not a job for the overly brave either, the minute you you become overconfident or complacent its time to hang up the proverbial gloves.

It is good to remain humble, being cocky gets you killed. I take my hat off to you, somebody has to take a different road that everyone else will say is crazy but I can understand your path.

For me, the most beautiful snake is the Gaboon and Rhino viper. I have a healthy respect for all snakes and would never kill one unless absolutely necessary. I always remove snakes from roads and I have saved many a bull snake or garter from certain death. I used to work at a reptile warehouse and became familiar with many species. Sitll, I have nothing but respect and great caution for them. So thank you SA Hunting for educating those who may not realise how important snakes truly are.

A gaboon viper and rhino viper. Hate them if you will, but one cannot deny the amazing intricacies of their markings. Beautiful snakes. Terrifying, yes, but amazing creations of nature.

gi jane - yes they are beautiful snakes. I also like the green mambas.

i have not run across any of those snakes in the wild. probably just as well because their camouflage is excellent. you would need to go to the forest areas to see those vipers I think - they are not easy to find on the forest floor unless you are looking very carefully. But maybe you are a herpetologist - and this is your thing.

Black Mamba that the boys killed this morning, it came out from under the hood of one of the maintenance vehicle after a short 15 minute drive... It snuck out while the car was being refilled.

One of the biggest mamba's that I have ever seen, and was actually forced to kill, was also up at the top of a wind-mill. We had to do some maintenance on the mill and it wouldn't come down.
