Seen this pic on Game Animals past and present and wanted to share.

A Black mamba - approx 6m long - a mamba this size probably hatched during the 60's and would carry enough venom to kill 400 men at once !! The black mamba is the longest venomous snake in Africa and the fastest snake in the world, has been recorded at speeds of 23 km/h (14 mph)

Observe I myself have never seen a Black Mamba live and don't want to or I'll scare all the game away trying to shoot that thing, I don't like snakes. All I know is what I read and I got all this info off of Game animals Past and Present, but anyone can submit a photo for posting. if anyone knows anything different please let me know. Thanks Observe for clueing me in I hadn't heard that and I still can't figure why people would waste there time photo shopping a pic what do they get out of it? a fake picture!

There would be no way in hell that thing would be left to live. I would be packing a shotgun in the summer time in Africa no two ways about it. That snake looks almost as big as the one o G A P&P that I posted heck its 4 feet up the door and still plenty on the porch.

I agree, it looks like a king cobra. I was just trying to figure east cape into the equation. It didn't look like any African snake I was aware of.

You've not got that to worry about if you have read my hunting reports then you know I have always gone in May and June. why? 2 reasons, #1 its my Birthday 2 June, #2 its winter in Africa and no Dang Snakes in 2010 I did see 1 Cobra it had been warm that week and one had come out to sun it quikly went under a rock to escape the 300 Win Mag I was packing. I'll tell you a little story about me and snakes back in the 80s I was a Army Individual Training Instructor (AIT) working at Redstone Arsenal Alabama, I was talking to some fellow NCO's and they told me about a spot where Crappie a fish I so love to eat come in to spawn and they said they were some big ones. Well after Work I head out to this new spot they told me about in search for monster Crappie also known as speckled bass. Well I got my pole ready cast out and heard the lure hit the water (plop) then I heard plop, plop, plop, I got to looking and there was 8 or 9 water Moccasins swimming twards me now I'm not scared of most things , I've faced charging Bull Moose with a 54 cal BP and charging wild boar with a 30-30 even face Grizz and Black bear charges no problem I can watch them 1 at a time but 8 or 9 snakes no way I pack up my crap and ran not walk out of there quick and I'm not going back. but enough about my fear of snakes back to the thread.

Yeah Right, I'd love to see them all dead! them things attack just cause your there. when I was at Fort Rucker I was fishing for Bass a buddy of mine seen me down by the lake and stopped to say hi when he set down by the water with his broke foot laying out by the cattails a Water moccasin came out and hit his cast 3 times before he could move his foot thankfuly he was in a cast.

I met this logger from Mississippi that said water moccasins were friendly but black bears are scary. He said all snakes want to be left alone, which I agreed with for the most part. I just found it hilarious that he was scared to death of black bears. BTW, we were hunting black bears...LOL

Yes,the 2 " biggest/largest" snakes in Africa are probably the rock python and the black mamba,and the one on the picture looked like neither of these 2 snakes--he sure looked like a nasty bugger though!

Wheels,I had a wonderful time down south thanks-
from warthog hunting in the North [see the warthog thread] to Whale spotting out of a micro light down at the southern most point of Africa [Agulas] nearly 2000 km away while visiting my grandson!
Man, I'll tell you,I can sure get used to it...

Bobpucett-I have no experience with Moccasins ,but from what I've read, they seemed to be best avoided!
