Big Bore Addiction Group

Matt you are correct a big bore can go through a lottt of powder. But compared to the old black powder boomer’s are modern rifles are rather consertive. My 12 bore uses 190gr of 2ffg, the 8 bore shoots great with 300gr 2ffg. You would have to talk to someone that shoots a 4 or 2 bore on the damage each shot does to a pound of powder. We need to start a charity for Donation of $$$ to the big bore support group for components. We will gladly accept donations from PETA and other shuch groups;)

For the price of a cup of coffee a day you can change this poor shooters life. Giving him the RL15 and 400gr solids that he so needs.
Wonder if Sally Struthers is still doing commercials?

Cody,

You had me reaching for my credit card. I was about to sign up for the monthly dues!!!!

my shoulder is a lost cause, hopefully the retinas hold out a while though.

i wish smokeless was as cheap as black powder! last time i bought black powder it was $14 a pound (a year ago). i pay around $30 a pound for smokeless. i think ill try some BP loads for the 505 Gibbs and the 585 HE.

Matt, the Big Bore DR shoot will be on May 2.

if i can find a cheap flight to get there and back, i can actually make that date.

will shoot you a PM for further details.

just got done making the last of the cartridges for my PG hunt in May and I also made 20 cartridges to take out and practice with tomorrow (you can never practice too much).

however in doing so I managed to burn threw another box of bullets and yet another pound of powder! for all of you that don't shoot big bore guns, let me tell you these cartridges are not for the cheap or stingy! at 81.5gr per shot my PG load for the 416 RM eats threw a pound of powder in 85 shots which for me is about 4 range trips or 2 months. now as a hand loader I pay pretty reasonable prices for my ammunition by sacrificing some of my time. if you shoot large bore guns often and don't hand load... "a fool and his money".

now once I start shooting the 585 HE... 140gr of powder per shot... may the gods of wealth have mercy on this pitiful soul. :D

hope you practiced on the sticks (y)

went out today and burned those 20 cartridges. my practice loads had a slightly different point of impact then the hunting loads so its not right on target but here is a target i was shooting at. the target was shot off sticks at roughly 65 yards (i forgot my range finder at home:E Doh:).

Matt do you expect those to hit higher at 100 to 150 yards? Nice grouping for a 416 off sticks.

Slightly different impact or not, that's four dead animals!

not really, these loads just shot low and left. most likely because they were made from heavily used brass that's near the end of its life. my hunting loads are made with new brass and shoot a half inch high at 100 yards and about the same at 50 yards.

In light of the brief discussion in the previous page regarding BPE, what do you guys reckon on .577 BPE sxs?
Already have the 450 o/u, so need one more in the .50cal and sxs, thought maybe going with the BPE might be extra classical?

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
