Best time to hunt South Africa

I was wondering if I needed to bring rain gear...I have some Sitka pants/jacket Guess I'll pack them also.

well, i suppose you can. Last year we had a lot of sleet rain and it snowed in areas where it didn't ever in the past...i believe global warming has something to do with it...

Depending in which area's your safaris is going to be...yes bring it...

I drag it along, especially on longer trips. We had unprecedented rain in the winter two years ago as well.

I prefer to hunt during winter, cool weater, no insects or snakes (well at least not many).

June, July, August, and September being my favorite.

I just got back from a hunt in the Upper Karoo (4000 msl) the last week in May and first week in June. It was COLD at night and in the a.m., down below 0C/32F. Frost on the ground four mornings. Daytime temps weren't much above the low 60s and the wind blew hard a few days. My PH said it was unseasonable but I was glad I brought my long underwear and had enough clothes to layer until it warmed up during the day. It rained overnight once & cleared out before sunrise. If needed, my camo jacket was also raingear. I plan on returning next year but in April or earlier in May. Good Luck!

Thanks didn't know it could be that cold that early. Not sure just yet when he wants me there I am going in 2015 so we have plenty of time to figure it all out.

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
