Best rifle for women

Very nice! I think I may have said it before but my dream gun would be an R8 Jaeger with some of those beautiful side panels they have. One day...

Uhm... Could you have at least gotten the dog in the picture, too?:)

Oops Sorry! I see Beula(y)(y)(y)

Per @Jfet request, here is a picture of the princess of our house, Beulah Mae

Tikka T3x Compact in .308 Win or 7mm-08 Rem.
I love my tikka T3 in 7mm Mag. I have an Edwards Recoil reducer installed in it and the recoil is very manageable for anyone. No one seems to know about these fantastic recoil reducers but they could really help the ladies and all of us shoot better.

I have attached a few pictures of the rifle I ended up choosing. They’re a little rough, but the best I could do. Blaser R8 Professional Success .308WIN

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! You're going to love that rifle. Or should I say rifles as you will no doubt acquire additional barrels & scopes.

EDIT: check out the website of Titanium Gunworks. They make nifty adapters for the barrel & scopes for Blaser rifles:

Never heard about these recoil reducers and had to google the company. :) How much recoil do they take away? Is it equivalent to using a good suppressor? Do they change the balance or is it manageable? Thanks for the tips! (y)

Caliber makes a difference (obviously) but it is very much in the context of rifle weight and fit. Get one that fits you well. Get one that is comfortable carry but please don't go buy a 300wm 'sheep rifle' model because it's nice and light. An ultralight rifle can hurt, even in 7mm-08!

I hunt with my neighbors a lot. The whole family hunts, including the wife and the daughters (3). The youngest is 13 and pretty small. They all shoot 300wm and they shoot it well.

Lots of really sound advise given. Obviously, JimP is the sharpest of the bunch.
Who said you only get one rifle ?
Seriously look at Blaser rifles.
Been hunting with them for about 20 years and the baggage gorillas haven't stolen one or damaged one yet.

I look forward to getting my Blaser out on the range here in the coming weeks/months as the weather warms up a bit. Looking to get my scope for her here in the next few weeks. Can't wait!

To help with your scope purchase a good rule of thumb is to spend the same on the scope as you did on the rifle. @WFet knows this and I'm sure he's budgeted properly! ;)
@Royal27 you have that wrong:eek: The rule of thumb is to spend 1.5 to 2 times as much on the glass as on the rifle:) Although your formula may work out ok on a Blaser :)

I told @NurseFet in a PM that she didn't need any fancy brand and that a good old Leupold would work just fine!

@NurseFet try it out before you go with a 56MM objective scope! I'm not experienced with Blasers but too many gun stocks are made for open sights, not scopes... Or part way in between, Thus the scopes ends up being mounted too high. Other than AR type. For most hunting situations you will be much happier with something in the 42-44mm range, or less. You should be able to get your check down on the stock and see perfectly through the scope.... Which is why someone mentioned you may have the cart ahead of the horse by buying the mount before you bought the scope. Both should go together. The mount should provide the optimum mounting height possible with the scope you go with. As well as the eye relief and clearance for the bolt, loading, and ejecting spent cartridges.... None of these latter are likely issues with a Blaser R* though;)

And BTW, Congratulations!

A 5-25x56 on a .308 hunting rifle? That’s a joke right? What am I missing?
It wouldn't be my choice; too much magnification IMHO. I have 1.5-6x for my .376 H&H and a 4-16x on my .300 Win Mag. Of course I could swap the two if I really wanted to.

The .56mm objective might necessitate the need for a cheek pad as it might require a higher mount.

In my mine and experience a rail mounted scope is perfect for a Blaser. My preference for that combination is either a Swarovski Z8i in 1.7-13.3x42 or 2-16x50 or a Schmidt & Bender. Even a 56mm objective Z8i 2.3-18x56 rail mount fits low on a Blaser and will not interfere with stock open sights.

Nothing wrong with this scope on a 308. You hunt between 6-12 (70-150 y ) in the bush and 12-18 (150- 450 y ) in the Kalahari. Totally within range on the hunting rifle and caliber. It is all about the intended application.
You can turn the magnification down, but you can never add magnification.

the old leuplod 2.5 - 8 will never be a mistake.
i have 2 that are over 40 yrs old and still going strong.
have been on everything from 270 up to 375 h&H and never a problem.
one is now on a 280 rem on its second barrel, and the other on a 9.3x64.
would buy another one in an instant for a general purpose hunting rifle.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
