Best reticle for africa

I got everything done with ease, including a 450 yard shot on a baboon, with a plain old duplex. That was the longest shot I've ever made. But for the average 200 and under hunting, I love the Leupold Duplex Firedot reticles.

If I were buying a new scope for my 375H&H, I'd opt for a Leupold VX5 2x10 firedot with duplex reticle or Swarovski 1.7x10 z8i. If you already have a nice scope, I would not stress the lighted reticle, however, all new scopes for me will be lighted.

I'm looking for a LPVO with a true 1x power for CQB close encounters in case of a charge up close. Shots past 400+ yards will be rare for me.

For a Dangerous Game rifle chambered in 375 RUM mounted with a LPVO, what is optimal to set zero at? Do you recommend a 50 yard zero or 100 or 200 yard zero? I have two LPVO's I'm interested in, the Leupold VX-6HD 1-6x24 or Swarovski Z6i 1-6x24 in SFP with a simple duplex reticle.

I want quick target acquisition.

A 100 yard zero will also be a 50 yard zero with scoped .375 Don’t over think that one.

I wouldn’t zero a DG rifle at 200.

I really like the reticle on my Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24 scope with the 4A-IF. It is an illuminated red dot in the center and you can also have an illuminated circle around the red dot if you want. Works great in low light and shows up great against the dark hide of buffalo.

Is that LPVO a true 1x power? Can that be used as close as 10-15 yards in case of a charge?

In the case of a charge it is much better not to have a scope on your rifle. One reason why I always took this off when I have approached a standing or lying buffalo.

I ran the 375 RUM with a 300 grain Sierra with a muzzle velocity of 2952 fps through a program. Zeroed at 200 yards, 100 yards is 1.5 inches high and 5 inches low at 279 yards. I'd zero at 200 and consider virtually every shot being point blank range.

How does the 200 yard zero compare to the 50 yard zero for the 375 RUM if you don't mind? The farthest I'd shoot a buffalo would be 50 yards max, 300 yards would be for smaller game obviously so I'd like to setup my rifle to be very versatile from point blank to 300 yards with a 1-6 lpvo - a big game rifle and plains game rifle all in one if I could.

Yes, my concern is a rifle that is not setup properly for either dangerous game or plains game so I'm trying to figure out that balance. A true 1x power, SFP, duplex reticle and flat shooting from point blank to 100 yards max for my dangerous game rifle setup and then be able to hit plains game at 300 yards.

I'm trying to figure out my point blank range for the 375 RUM with a near-zero and a far-zero with mono-metals from 270gr to 300gr with the ShootersCalculator...
