I have two bolt action rifles I want to smooth up in terms of extraction after firing. JJ Perodeau does all my DRs but long ago stopped doing bolt action work except for things like opening up my Rigby 275 for larger bullets
I will gladly send my two rifles anywhere in the US to do this work
Please let me know your experience and contacts
Thanks so much for your help!!!

I've heard excellent things about Wayne at AHR. While he no longer takes on new bespoke work and stopped modifying CZs, I believe he is still in the trade doing work on high quality bolt guns.

This may be true, but last we spoke it was my impression all he wanted to do was manufacture components and build an occasional rifle of his choosing (and sell). He does do awesome work.

Of the folks I would check with to see if they are interested (and I know there are other great 'smiths out there), I would see if Duane Wiebe, Matt Roberts or Tip Burns would be interested). Tip is my go to and have sent quite a few people his way (he is relatively local to me). True Mauser expert.

First step may simply to be asking JJ for a recommendation as well.

Mark Bansner builds big bore rifles. Could check to see if he'd do other work.

D'Arcy Echols, or Gene Simillion.

Matt Roberts in Weathersfield VT did some work on one of my rifles and I'm very happy with it. Had a chance to spend some time in his shop last year looking at some of his custom work and it's quite impressive. I'd certainly send more work his way.

Bruce Farman is EXCELLENT. I have a full custom CZ that he made feed smooth as butter and installed a beautiful new bolt handle.

Lon Paul gets my vote. Although I don’t know if he ever restarted his business after a tragic forest fire destroyed his workshop in 2013.

Joe Smithson is also really good.

He is very slow and takes his time but Brett Bussie at Bussie Custom Arms in Wisconsin is excellent

Kevin Weaver at Weaver Rifles is who you are looking for! He located the issue @CoElkHunter 416 Rigby in just several minutes! He will also work these types of jobs in between his builds and sometimes have them done in just a week or two.
He is a great Smith that builds killer bolt rifles. You can see some of his builds that he has for sale on his site here under the “Available Rifles” tab…

My rifle is at new England custom gun getting a scope mounted. I've heard good things about them so that's why I sent it there
Mark at New England Custom also has my .458 Lott bolt gun for some work right now. In the past he mounted an EAW "Quick Loc" pivot scope mount which I love, returns to zero. He has also fixed feeding issues on my Winchester Model 70 .375 H&H. I am fortunate to have him within 3 hours driving time.

I have used Ed labour in Bremerton, Washington do quite a bit of work on various bolt action rifles. These include my .458 Win Mag on a Whitworth (Mark X) action, a .300 Win in n the same action, and my dad's .30-06 on a Mauser 98 action. An article was written about his work on custom rifles in Sports Afield a couple of years of years ago. I have no qualms recommending his work on any firearm. You can find him on line, or you can PM me for more info.
