Bench Rest Question

Any advice/suggestions on a good quality portable bench rest? We've got pigs and coyotes coming into our new pond and I am taking measures to eliminate them. I've ordered a steel trap, and purchased a Danial Defense DD5V4 AR and a Hill Country Rifles Pathfinder Predator bolt action, and outfitted both with Pulsar Thermion scopes.
There are several locations which afford unobstructed views of the entire pond ranging from 100 to 150 yds. My barn is a bit over 300 yds and has limited views. Game cameras monitor the entire area. I'm thinking a small tent with a bench rest would good place to start.

Thanks
I have a simpler design but I am not sure who makes it. All Seasons makes a very nice aluminum one that is similar to mine.

Here is one like I have. Very lightweight.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Ordered the All Seasons bench, should have it at the local dealer in a day or two.
If this is the bench you are talking about, it looks like a good one.

Leg hold traps if legal where you live. I would never expect to catch one in a live trap. Coyote are extremely cautious. If you’ve never trapped before it’ll be a big learning curve but I’d look up “coyote dirt hole set” on YouTube and buy a handful of 4 coil #2s set in pairs about 10 feet apart. I’d toss a stick of gland lure and a stick of call lure at bottom of hole, but if you are just starting a stick of coyote gland lure and small (tablespoon size) scrap of deer meat will be fine too. I’ve never actually caught one myself. I use to trap a lot for fox, raccoon, muskrat, mink, beaver but there have never been many coyotes where I live. I’ve gone along on a few successful coyote catches but unfortunately there just isn’t a market anymore to really justify trapping. I really use to enjoy it a lot.

375Fox has good advice. Pull up a few YouTubes. A dirthole set or a urine post would work well. One of my favorites (if you need to keep it low key) is a variation of a dirthole. It is a very small hole, made with the rebar stake that secures the trap, and then pushing a mouse down the hole, with the tail sticking out. Drives them nuts.

Caven's lures are good. I am partial to Milligan's Steppenwolfe for coyote. Absolutely use urine to put them at ease. And you can do no better for supplies than Minnesota Trapline Products.

One small correction I would make, though maybe some wouldn't or won't make this distinction: foothold trap, not leghold.

He's also correct on live traps and coyotes. If you can catch a coyote in a live trap, it's time to start buying lottery tickets.

Best of wishes on whatever path you choose to address your issue.

That's the one. Turns out a dealer is just a few miles away, he called the warehouse and they had one ready to go. Should be here in a day or two depending on weather. The forecast is for freezing rain starting tomorrow morning.

Is that a mini-fridge or a microwave below the two beer holders?
I'll let you know when it gets here. I see the first mod I'll have to make is a cigar holder, the rhino foot might be a bit over kill -

What about simply sitting with the long (up to 27") Harris bipods? We make <500 yd shots every year on woodchucks and coyotes (and deer, sheep, PG as well, etc.) w/ elbows on knees-rock steady! I am reminded by this pic of that very day...the 'chucks were taken in the span of about 15 sec as we spotted 'em at 200, 300 and 400 yds (in ea of the fields shown.) That rifle, dubbed "Frankenstein" was made out of all sorts of hot-rod parts for Rems (22-250 handloaded) and it was dialed in to 750 yds. I'd prob like an AR-10 6.5 and up for those hogs. Forget the rest and just shoot em all at 100-150! Are claymores legal in the feeding area??

Thanks, I ordered some Duke 550's, some bait and coyote urine, and started watching YouTube. I had a live trap, which I set today using some chicken and shrimp for bait. Maybe something will wander in. My pig trap is ready, when weather permits I'll go pick it up.

Suppressors are mounted on my rifles, I just have to zero the thermal scopes and I should be good to go.

If you or a neighbor has a male dog, I have had even better luck walking the dog by the trap set. Seems they can't resist hiking their leg and putting their own scent on it. Same thing for the coyote.

I actually have no idea why I said leg hold. I guess it’s because I’ve only known two types of traps my whole life. They are traps (foothold) and conibears. I don’t think I’ve ever said foothold before lol.

That would be my first choice if they were around in daylight and the neighbors' houses weren't so close. The balcony off my trophy room is 500 - 600 yds from the pond, but I won't have an unobstructed view until I finish moving all the dirt and burn a couple brush piles.

Right now it's just too damn cold to sit out all night waiting.
