Could you clarify-you say purchased in the 1960 by you. Is it a 1960 gun or did you mean to say sometime in the 1960's? If in the 1960's, could you give the first 3 of the serial number? Thanks.

Great example of a 1960's Superposed, in beautiful condition!

Yes, it has been well cared for and is a dream to carry. When you pull from the case you always get that rush of pride in a beautiful gun.

Does not appear that there is a great deal of interest in shotguns on this forum.

Anyone suggest a grouse and woodcock forum that I could participate?

One question you're likely to get since it looks like it's a 1966 manufacture date is whether it's been checked for salt wood?

As you may know if it was of the salt issue it would have shown up long before almost the 50 years it has been.In fact long long before!
Check pics of fittings and screws. Will answer your concern.

Pull one screw from the butt plate and you will know if it has salt wood.

In the second pic you can see the serial number with the top lever moved over, S72 with means gun was assembled in 1972. Beautiful gun, doubtful if it has salt by the looks of the pics, really clean along the wood to metal edges. Good luck with your sale

Thank you Neckdeep for your imput. Much appreciated.

It appears my memory is at fault as Neckdeep has pointed out the gun is dated 1972 so my earlier info on my purchase is incorrect. Receipt and box are long gone so have to correct my earlier info to: gun was purchased in early 1970s by me.
Apologize for my memory lapse and thank ND for bringing that to light.

Art Issacson was a Browning gunsmith for over 30 years and worked extensively on saltwood Brownings while employed by Browning. He is now one of the top Browning Superposed, A5, etc. restorers in the country in his own shop. He has a good article on the saltwood guns on his website. He lists the saltwood years as around 1966 to 1971.
