Barnes TTSX weight for 300WM PG

Not exactly scientific, but last year I tested three bullets for penetration. The medium was soaked magazines at 100yds. These were out of a .300 Wby.
The penetration was as close as I could figure, but it will give you some comparison.

Very interesting! I wouldn’t have guessed the 165 would penetrate the most

I have a tough time getting any of the TSX over 165 to group well (I try for 1/2 MOA) in my 300 wins. The 165s shoot stellar… the 180s perform quite well in my 30-06, it took all my PG on my first trip - no bullets recovered.

@meigsbucks
Looks like the TTSX trumps all others, wow you wouldn't have thunk it.

A good shooting friend of mine is an avid Barnes guy. He doesn’t shoot magnums. He prefers to go with lower weights.
Two days ago he took a cow elk in CO with a 6.5 CM using a 127gr LRX.
this is what it did to the far leg bone.

The Swift (assuming it's a A Frame) has quite impressive expansion. Looks twice the size of the Barnes.

I’m curious-you said you’ve always shot the 212 eld-x. . .So why not just keep shooting it, it would be perfect for plains game, so I don’t understand the interest in jumping ship.
I like the Barnes tsx and ttsx and have done well with both in various calibers, but nothing wrong with eld-x either.
Hi FB, great question; which I will answer in 2 fold.

1. My current 300WM is a bit unwieldly with a 28" carbon tube and a loud brake topped off with
a heavy optic.

2. I figured since I have spare magnum action, I would build another that is more friendly to carry and easier on the ears for everyone around me.

Keep the info coming fellas!

I heard and read the same thing but I went differently.
In the sons 308 he used the 150gn Accubonds at 2,900fps and the Australian made Outer Edge 140gn at 2,800fps. Even the 140s punched thru a zebra at 120 yards and the second shot at 190 yards. Massive damage from them. No projectiles were recovered as they were complete thru and thru with massive internal damage and good exit wounds. Glad I didn't listen.
Bob Accubond is good no doubt. I shot my lion with a 300g Accubond.
Maybe you missed my point. I was able to take a wide variety of game with the same bullet. Hammering the bigger animals yet not tearing up the dik dik. No other bullet can do that IMO.
My son has taken Mountain and Burchell Zebra with his 7mm Mag loaded wih 160g TSX. Both went straight down with one shot!
Glad you and your son had a great safari. I am trying to figure out a way to get my son to Zim in a couple years to hunt his third African country.
