Australians suck!!!

That sucks.

I haven’t watched it in full . Just finished nightshift.

Yes probably from the 96 buyback where we lost semi autos and pump action shotguns to the general population.

Most of those guns would have been crushed in a press to disable them before being transferred to a smelter .

Some guns are junk. I've owned a few that deserved the scrap heap. Many of the guns I could make out in that video (I didn't watch all of it) were rubbish wearing a trigger. Good riddance.
They didn't just confiscate junk or "Saturday night specials" I remember seeing picture of engraved, heirloom grade pistols, etc. They didn't care. There should be hell to pay if they try that again. Or, try it here for that matter.

yeah 1996 “forced buy back”

I have a pic somewhere of me from 2019 sitting in Bojanles Saloon in Alice Springs NT, holding a copy of Australian Outdoors from 1973 showing a full page advert for the Ruger 10/22 Carbine.

I suddenly had an awakening to the fact that I was sitting in a developed modern nation of friendly people, reading a magazine printed 10years before I was born which was advertising a firearm that I owned multiple versions of and admired ….. and they were all rounded up and crushed 23 years before.

never take anything for granted.

Yes, never forget and never take anything for granted.

This was 1996/7, almost 30 years ago. Forced on the Australian people b an allegedly conservative Prime Minister egged on by the media.

Currently we have one of the most feckless, woke and incompetent Governments in history. We are rapidly approaching a Fedral election and should be looking forward to throwing these idiots out of Governmentt. Unfortunately, what scares me is that the Leader of the Opposition has recently praised the gun control policies of John Howard and cited them as examples of great leadership. As of today he's also ranted on about the need for Federal knife laws. So we face the choice between a hopeless idiot and a dangerous authoritarian. Things don't look good.

1996…..that was the year that I learnt to be very, very careful who you vote for.

That happened under a conservative government. I still feel betrayed and haven’t forgotten or forgiven.

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.

Now, before you get your tightly whities wedged in your crack, I've got a bunch of Aussie friends and they're awesome and come to think of it I've never met an Aussie I didn't like.
@Pilgrim
I bet there was a lot that went home with people.
There were also a lot of historical guns destroyed.
It was a sad day for us shooters but Jack book John Howard had to make Joe Public feel safer after port Arthur.
No consultation no nothing just blanket bans and bullshit to appease people.
If the same thing happened in the USA I bet there would be rioting in the streets against it
Guns don't kill, people do.
Guns are tools but some people are even BIGGER TOOLS ( fools)

And the interesting thing about the changes in legislation and regulations was how quickly the “draft” was revealed.

I'll say it as a wayward USA Kansas boy.

The most stiff drinking competition I ever encountered anywhere in the world was a group of early 20s Aussie girls in perth/freemantle.

And the best FAL (l1a1) handguards were Aussie-make wood laminate with foil liner that resisted heat on prolonged fire.

Also.. I'm the only American I know that likes Vegemite. Fell in love at a bakery on rottnest island off the coast of perth. Oh ... To have one of those meat pies again.

I've travelled to Australia 3 times--most recently last year on a buffalo hunt. I took my 416 Rigby with me. The paperwork, permits, useless red tape and beaurocracy were really ridiculous for a hunter traveling with a rifle. The regulations are not hunter friendly, and they are hurting the hunting business in Australia. I will never hunt there again.
Aussie people, however, are delightful and my hunt was successful.

Another reason that our laws suck are because the Lithgow Small Arm Museum is now under fire.
In the town of Lithgow they produced many of the Australian military firearms for over 100 years and there is a museum displaying many variations.
It recently had some stuff stolen.I believe a lot were recovered prompting a review of their safe keeping arrangements. Since someone committed the offence of stealing now the museum faces closure if they can’t comply with the new requirements imposed on them and the government don’t seem to care to fund the upgrades to preserve an important part of our nations history.

No one provided any background info re the video. To me it was just a bunch of guns being stockpiled. I didn't watch the whole thing. After several minutes of the same thing over and over, I didn't see any point in going further. And the guns I saw in the few closeup shots were pretty much junk. If the govt wanted to pay me money for junk I don't need, I'd take the deal. Why not?

Wow,

I really wish I would have another drink, and explain in great detail how annoying you, and your incessant posts/replies are. But instead, I'll leave it at this...

If you lived here all your pump action and auto shotguns would have been in what you described as a pile of junk . Along with any semi automatic long arm.

You really shouldn’t comment flippantly on a subject that you know nothing of. It can be very irritating.

I hope you get to shoot your junk shotguns often and for a long time. I can’t even hold one.

There could have been any number of quality Semi Autos or pump action shotguns in that pile.
No doubt some junk was taken in the buy back but there was no choice but to take the price set by the buyback scheme. Condition didn’t come into it they were listed by model and accessories

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
