First weekend testing my new ground blind.

So far so good. I'm close enough to hear them chewing.

Burgers on the grill, then a nap, then back to the blind!

My little archery plot was fertilized yesterday and a good steady rain last night and today, the germination was good so it should be ready for our opener on the 15th.

I think that would be considered quite a whopper just about anywhere. :D

Is that a split brow tine on the deers right?

Beautiful Whitetail there bud, extremely well done !

Did he dive down on string release ?

Yes looks like maybe 17-18pts be none typical ?

If you get in early like this before too much fighting or rubbing small points off it can equal top scoring to.

Couple extra bumps on the brows. Yes, lucky as they are just starting to rut and got him before he got all broken up. Those brows would be the first to go. I think he did jump the string a bit at 20 yards. I was thinking after the shot I hit the last few deer high, need to start shooting at the brisket line I guess. The bow is really quiet but not to the deer evidently.

@Trophyhunter01 wow!
What a toad!!! Congrats.

I had just about given up on bow season this year. Had a big boy duck my arrow a couple weeks back which pissed me off. I pouted and then got over it. Lol

Today I was waiting in the blind and reading a book when this guy came in thrashing the trees and bushes.

I wrap up my face in a shemagh when blind hunting and hadn't yet done so. Lazy day, hot, was waiting it out and sucked into my book

This guy was completely indifferent to me and he looked right at me!!
Too busy chasing the girls.
Today it cost him.

That’s a keeper, nice tine length on that buck. Archery is a fun but frustrating thing.

Yes bit of a catch 22 if farther out more time to move & if too close, hear the string or release & jump the arrow .

I always aim for low heart shot if I’m really close since I spined a meat deer years ago & it was crawling off.

I've started aiming lower now. This guy ducked an arrow aimed 1/3 up from the bottom inside of 20 yds about 3 weeks ago.

It was like watching them dodge bullets in the matrix. I was astonished.

This time I aimed at the line where the white belly hair meets the brown sides.
And... He had his mind on the girls.

Figured if he didn't duck, it's a heart shot. If he ducks, double lung.

Haha yes it does look like Neo dodging bullets lol

I thought I had missed seeing it dive down on arrow release but next instant it collapsed & rolled down a steep bank to the river then commenced to crawl off, not nice, we do must of our Bow hunting stalking, I don’t think anyone uses a blind or tree stand in NZ .

Got my best archery buck today. No good deer in East Texas they say. Broke in a new to me bow as well.

Excellent buck! High fence or free range? The problem with archery season in east Texas or anywhere in the Ark-La-Tex area is the hot weather. It’s been hitting in the 90s this past week.

Yep…

I hunt E TX… just 2 miles from the LA border, about an hour and 15 south of Texarkana…

It’s been in the 90’s the entirety of bow season…

Rifle opens this weekend.. we’ve got a storm that’s supposed to bring in a cold front mid week this week… projected temp for opening day is still going to be 74 for opening day…

Hopefully the 15+ degree temp drop has a positive effect on them.. even though 74 is still far from “cold”…

View attachment 642833Well done. That’s some age and genetics working well together with y’all’s management program. My buddy AJ worked for a great record book non-typ PY in east texas some years ago, got publicized in a few top mags of the day. Helps when you can manage large acreage!

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
