AR-type Rifles

Croatia, EU. (Land of XDM pistols and Hellion rifles)
Looking for imported rifles from USA or other EU countries.

I am looking for ar15 rifle. Purpose, target shooting, scoped. range 200 meters
Need some advice. No experience with such rifles before
Options:

Savage MSR15
Smith & wesson M&P 15
Armalite m15
Colt ar15 m4
Diamondback db12 (5.56) - others above are in 223 rem

This is now available in my LGS.

I dont mind spending more, if finding better rifle.

I would like advice from community, which from above would be best for purpose intended. Prone target shooting at 200 mtrs, with scope. Competition

For short time available were daniel defense and SIG rifles.
Would these two be worth looking for around, or wait for next occasion, when compared to above?

Advice on:
For 200 meters, optimum barrel lenght?
And for 40 rounds string shoot, optimum barrel thickness?
Caliber, 223, of course.

Thanks for input guys.
IF you can find a SIG 516 Gen 2 buy it.

Just a few of my thoughts on the subject.

For home defense I chose a suppressed DD 300 BO set up so I own the night.

Not a good choice for a SHTF scenario as ammo will quickly be hard to source.

For that I'm using a TR-1 .556 carbine also set up so I own the night. .556 will be the easiest rifle ammo to source in the U.S. in a SHTF scenario.

These two guns are accessorized exactly the same so my muscle memory is the same.

Weapon lights are critical. All your self defense pistols and rifles should have weapon lights on them.

And practice a lot, including during the night.

Appreciate advice, but with gun laws in my place, this is impossible (or at least science fiction)
For barrel, I need one purchasing permit, for upper receiver another. For lower, one more.
After spending 3 purchase permits and assembling it, I will need to register rifle.

In order to do that, rifle must be in police database of firearms. As it will be unique, they will not have it in database, so it will have to go to forensic department, to determine type of rifle, and maker, put it in data base, and then to register.
Minimum 3-4 months process. (if I am lucky)

O, yes, if the barrel is not cip proved, it needs to be cip proved after fitting to receiver, and there is no CIP proof house in country. WIll have to be sent to Austria, closest place. (all in all, a year of my life, and ton of nerves spent)

Thus I need to buy quality factory rifle. Much easier, and actually possible.

Can you get a gunsmith to build and register one for you to cut through the red tape? In Poland that’s possible.

Not in my country.
Assembling rifles, legally is so complicated, next to impossible.
Main problem is requirement that each rifle must have CIP proof marks, and there is no proof house here, in country. (the nearest proof house is in Ferlach, Austria)
As a result, no gunsmith actually makes the rifles, or rebarells them. The last gunsmith that made rifles (to my knowledge) was building mauser type hunting rifles, 20 years ago.
He now switched to gunsmith services and production of back-market parts, scope mounts, rails, triggers and similar.

Some workshops in Slovenia started building match rifles, and pistols. But they have easier laws. (And they are much closer to Austria for getting proof marks)

If someone plans to keep changing the barrels, the easiest way is modular type of rifle, like blaser r8, or merkel helix, and just buy new barrel (with proof marks) under purchase permit.
Rebarelling of rifles by using new raw barrel, that needs to be later tested in proof house, and get new serial number is so complicated that nobody wants to bother with it.

Get a Colt Trooper. You don't need to spend $2000 for a damn good AR. Stag and FN have similar models.

If you want top shelf performance but with a realistic budget, get ANY complete carbine lower assembly from your LGS. Then simply snap on a COMPLETE upper assembly. From BCM, Odin Works, Larue.

Larue has a nice billet upper for sale right now. You'll have to wait in line though.

The Colt 6920 is one of the best deals in the AR 15 market in my opinion. Chrome lined barrel, the bolt and carrier are made of the proper materials, the extractor spring is the best there is. It is quality, but without features that some find necessary.
Of your list that is my choice.

Guys, one question (I might have some more later)
If you have option to install bipod on ar15, where it will be:
Near the muzzle, in the middle of barrel length, or in the front of receiver?
(m lock hand guard)

Assuming it's free floated the most stability will come from the muzzle end. In fort of the receiver would give you more panning ability with less bodily position change much like a monopod baseplate on the magazine.

As close to the end of the rail as possible.

@PARA45
What scope have you fitted on that rifle?
(looks great!!)

(My ar15 is very similar in shape, with match barrel, 18 inch, and my plan is to use it for prone position competition shooting 200 meters)

I'm sorry my brother, but I wished that AR was mine. LOL!!!!! All of my ARs have either an Aimpoint or Eo-Tech sights on them. I've been thinking on getting one of those Vortex 1-6x24 Strike Eagles; I've heard great things about them.

As far forward as possible is best for stability.
Depending on what you want to do with the rifle, there might be other considerations.
- will you ever need to adjust or otherwise manipulate the bipod while in the shooting position? Can you reach it?
- will you ever shoot from a platform (table, whatever) that is too short if the bipod is way out there?

- during shooting, will not need to reach (at least i think so)
- prone position, and zeroing from bench.

Ive got the 1-6x Strike Eagle on one of our AR's (300 BLK).. Its been a very good optic for the price point.. rugged.. clear enough glass.. pretty fast/easy to acquire reticle (not great for long shots.. but excellent for 0-150 IMO)..

What 20" barrel would you guys recommend in 223 wylde? It doesn't need to be .25 moa or anything that spectacular, more so for plinking. Are Roscoe as good as the internet makes them seem?
