Anyone tried a magnifier with red dot on large caliber dangerous game rifles?

I'd think the same as AZDave. The higher COG of the magnifier on that hinge with something along the lines of a .458 Lott in recoil would have me concerned for durability. Either disengaging the lever holding the magnifier in place or compromising the whole hinge.

So you think a 458 has more recoil with less than 100 shots. Ever. Maybe.

Than a scar 308 shooting 1000 rounds a day?

Serious question.

Cumulative recoil over lifetime can contribute to stress fatigue at some point, but we're talking a significant increase in recoil forces between a 308 and a 458.

I'd liken it to being punched in the ribs: sure I might end up with a rib fracture after my 8 year old punches me 1000 times, but one or two hits from Mike Tyson and its a guarantee.

I just think there are much better options. Swarovski Z6i 1-6x or Z8i 1-8x come to mind. I can shoot my Z6i 1-6EE on 1x with the CDI reticle illuminated perfectly well with both eyes open.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
