I'm trying to sneak in a honeymoon hunt and i'm pushing hard for SA but i'm hedging my bets by throwing New Caledonia or maybe Spain in the Mix. Any international hunters out there that have hunting New Caledonia and have some feedback.

Cheers,
M.V.

I in in New Caledonia at the moment with work. I am trying to do the same thing as I have weekends off.

I have been in correspondence with this bloke- www.bellenewcaledoniasafaris.com

He will be in country from 30th July to end of August only. This is the best time of year to chase a quality Rusa stag.

Hello MV
How did you go finding out more on hunting NC ? I hunted there twice 06 and 2010, the first time was just hunting for 10 days and took 1 trophy ( seen heaps of good stags but waited for the big boy !) .
In 2010 I went as a guide for 5 weeks and put 10 clients through , the hunting is world class and there are to many Deer , it can bring the trophy quality down and the area can also be effected by drought or no rain at the right time and the monster stags can not grow . 2006 was a fantastic year for antler growth and you had time to do things in the midday but 2010 was hard work , staying out all day glassing for hours to come up with nice heads not whoppers .
But if you do go you will love it !! Stags roaring all around you , and if you like to see Deer then this is the place to go .
Good luck and hope you make it .

Looks like I am headed out next year, and a hop skip and jump away from the pulling the trigger with Belle New Caledonia Safaris...any thoughts or perhaps lines on who else may be good to look at. As for the antler growth, moisture at the right times is imperative and can make a HUGE difference, coming from the states its something we know all to well about; especially in the drought state of california. Luckily the south pacific looks like it's going to be a wet year, plus i'm not one for inches and more for a mature animal with character. Any other insight or feedback would be huge, please feel free to send me a message if thats better.

Cheers,
M.V.

Well my Dad hunted there in 1943 or so....he was a little too busy to hunt much....and using
full auto Carbines and Thompsons along with Garands of course...wasn't much left of the one deer they shot...
was a good story though growing up!

Hope your hunt goes better!

You will have a great time with those guys , they know how to have a good time !
The name all comes from when my brother owned the outfit over there , he had it for 16 years and sold it to Colin Murray a Kiwi and that's when the name changed ( was Jamie Bell Safaris ) now Cranny & Chaz run it .
Good times ahead , you will love it !

MVogel, all the best for the honeymoon and hunt. NC is on my bucket list after Namibia and another Tahr & Chamois hunt in New Zealand.

Some guys just have it... as much as my wife loves me and understands/ approves of my hunting escapades.. I would NEVER have got it right to do a HONEYMOON hunt... ever!!!!
Best of luck to you and the bride in NC..

Thank you sir, and I certainly know I am a lucky man. I am locking down dates now and am looking forward to hunting during those summer dry months that will help hold me over till are fall hunting season.

Hello MV,

Did you get yourself hooked up with an outfitter in New Caledonia?

First, congrats on your nuptials!
Secondly, I have been following this thread from the beginning. I have some interest in someday hunting New Caledonia because my paternal grandfather served there in an artillery outfit with the US Army during WWII.
Would love to see some of the same beaches and vistas he did so long ago.
Looking forward to your report.

This hunting trip was just a portion of my Honeymoon so for the sake of being balanced I didn't have a lot of time to hunt. That being said there were plenty of opportunities, the area is a very target rich environment and my guide was adapt at finding quality stags. However I wasn't holding up to my end of the bargain and had my worst shooting experience of my life, i was clean missing shots that I would of never questioned regarding my ability. I was borrowing a rifle as i didn't want to truck mine around the whole trip and we did not seem to be getting along, that and the rushed nature of the hunt wasn't what i was used to. that being said it was an incredible experience and exceptional hunting camp with quality deer. I did end up funding success towards the end of my hunting portion of the trip I was as happy as i was relieved that it finally came together. Being back home i'm really looking forward to putting in some more time behind my own guns and making sure there is never another issue. Exceptional hunt and Trip.
Cheers,
M.V.

P.S. Did you end up doing this hunt with Belle New Caledonia Safaris?

I did, have you hunted with them?

No, I've never been to New Caledonia.
However, I am putting together a short list of prospective outfitters there for a future hunt.
I take it you would recommend this particular outfit?

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
