Looking for insight on hunting Chad, particulary Western Greater Kudu.

Thanks,
JE

My only recent experience in the area was focused on the lake chad region. There was no observed hunting in the area I knew of.

Not a very stable area, internal political problems, guerrillas....

I would not travel there

Think the conflicts in Darfur spread over the border into the area where the WG Kudu live. Heard of wildlife being poached from horseback by Sudanese in Chad.

There may be more scimitar horned oryx and addax in Texas than Chad now.

Wonder if dama and dorcas gazelle would be available if hunting is open.

Something makes me want to say that Jim Shockey did a hunt there in the past few years. You might contact him or Cory Knowlton.

I would love to read how you pulled this hunt off if at all possible.

Stay safe!

Check options with hunting consortium, they have good reputation.

When new country is discussed, or I need to travel somewhere, I find that uk govt foreign office informations are very good and updated.
Indeed, Chad does not look safe.

When I worked and lived in Nigeria, my company had an operation in Chad that was operated by Exxon. It got so bad, all western companies sold out and left.

You might reach out to @Happy Myles . He has hunted Chad and may have some insight.

Hi

For big game hunting still one operator in Chad near Zakouma at Melfi.
We stopped working there in 2006

A friend of mine is a a belgian national and vet there, working on re-establishing the black rhino. Incredibly tough working conditions, and according to him only hunting is in the Gos Beida Dessert where Flack hunted WG Koedoe. Constant pressure and skirmishes with sudanese horse mounted rebels

Peter Flack hunted his kudu with us it's not the same region

I think the French Foreign Legion have been the most recent hunters.

I haven’t been to Chad since 2006… and then it was only N’Djamena for a day…

I will say even then it wasn’t the sort of place I’d go for a hunt..

I was there with a team of 4 armed, well trained guys… and working directly with a Chad “commando” unit that was there to help with security…

And I didn’t feel secure at all lol…

I think I was more concerned about our commando friends than anyone else lol…

Hunting western kudu could get quite involved in a serious adventure access to them via Sudan or Southern Sudan into Chad instead or starting of from Chad.
It will be like king Solomons mines the future version avoiding figthing factions and finding a trophy kudu. :E Happy:
