Anyone ever used 375 H&H in PPU on game?

Just wondering how the 300 gr FMJ in particular holds up on small game such as jackal, honey badger, civet, serval, genet, etc. any of the smaller Africa critters. It shoots pretty accurately in my rifles.

Thanks!

One reason, I simply take my .375. Change the bullet and it works on everything. Factory A-Frames and Woodleigh Hydro's (a solid) shoot to the same point of aim in my R8. During my last hunt in Mozambique, the rifle took everything from Buffalo and Eland at one end of the spectrum to Suni and red Duiker at the other. A-Frames are devastating on the bigger stuff, and the hydro's make neat .375 holes through the little guys.

My only hesitation would be the truly small night cats like the genet - There a .22 Hornet would not be misplaced in the gun case. I would be worried that even a .375 solid might cut a little guy like that in half.

have you got a link for 375 H&H PPU solids?

Ive shot a good bit of their SP 375 H&H for range/plinking and then keep the brass for reloading purposes.. The SP's are plenty accurate in my rifle.. and its a pretty affordable way to get 375 brass to use for loading up my hunting ammo..

Ive never seen a box of solids online or at cabelas though (cabeleas is where I have gotten a few boxes of the PPU SP's in the past.. I think I was paying $37 a box for them there)..

Some pretty reasonably priced 375 H&H brass here that you get to shoot before reloading it.

I was just curious if the fmjs held together, or blew up. My rifles shoot the FMJ under an inch, but the SPs average over 1 1/2”. All 3 shot groups.

Redleg, I prefer to only carry one rifle since I don’t have an awesome switch barrel R8 (needless to say I’m very jealous!) I can barely haul my Pelican with a 375 in it around the airports. But a 22 Hornet would be awesome!

Thanks for the link @Ridgewalker !

$16 for 10 is a great price in my book.. $1.60 a shot for range ammo... and I end up with good quality reloadable brass after the day on the range is done

I figure 375 hornady brass is about $1.20 each.. and I don’t get the initial plinking opportunity at that price...

This is a far better deal

I have shot a few hogs with them, my M70 shoots them almost as well as my hand loads, they were all clean pass though.

YancyW were you using the FMJs or SPs?

There were the cheap FMJ rounds, same ones you linked to ammoseek.com. I bought two cases of 200 to prep for my Namibia trip, I think I paid under $600 total. In my M70, there were MOA. I can't find the target, or I would post it, but I had 15 rounds in a hole you could cover with a standard post-it note.

The .375 H&H is the best rifle caliber in the world and the quintessential definition of " All - Rounder rifle " . My only current rifle is a .375 ( it's a Winchester Pre war Model 70 ) and using the right loads , has taken even really small antelope without doing excessive damage to the meat or hides.

I killed a cotton mouth snake with a 300 grain PPU soft point from a push feed Model 70 375HH. True story.

I just blew Community coffee all over my computer monitor. Did it perform as expected?

Yes. I really think the flat base, round nose design of the bullet aided terminal performance.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
