Anybody using the 416 Rem?

is not the aust water buffalo heavier than the african buffalo?
bruce.

As stated, they can be and as a rule are but the Cape buffalo is the more aggressive of the two (perhaps given the prevalence of predators in Africa).

I have a box of Barnes 350gr TSX I may use on my buffalo hunt this year, if I decide to bring my 416 again. This time it'll be a 416 Ruger instead. Paired with one of my 375s for Eland and everything else.

A 350 g Barnes TSX in 375HH is more than adequate for buff. I had a head on shot last year and it penetrated his whole length. Never did find the slug. He ran maybe 80 yards and we found him stone dead. Didn't even hear a death bellow. Barnes 235 g TSX in 375 HH for PG out to 250 yards.

I think he means to use a 350gr Barnes in a 416, not a 375. (I don't think they make a 350gr 375 TSX.

learn something new every day!

now considering i believe the 300gr 375" TSX is much too heavy, i cant possibly understand why someone would use a 350gr TSX! if someone asked me which is the best .375 TSX for buffalo id tell them to use the 235gr or 270gr if they insisted on going heavy. these TSX bullets perform better the faster they are moving and will drive much deeper then a traditional lead bullet.

You are correct. I was referring to the 350gr 416 TSX. I have used the 300gr 375 TSX with good effect on water buffalo, but I agree that the 270gr would probably offer better expansion, especially if the velocity drops off on a longer shot.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
