Any Parkwest Arms feedback?

That’s awesome. How many rounds of 416 Rigby does it hold?
I actually thought I was replying to a different thread earlier. I thought you were asking about a Mauser 416 Rigby I looked at over the weekend. As to the PW rifle, I actually never received the rifle. I ended up letting another member here buy it. He had an upcoming hunt at the time and was in a hurry to get a rifle. So I let him take it instead. I’ve yet to re-order a rifle from them.

I would say they are about equal but I would have to do more testing to find the best one. The truth is they both shoot better than I can hold in the field. I also don't typically chase every ounce of energy or accuracy but find a good load and then just shoot. I don't enjoy reloading particularly.

I’m with you on that. Reloading lost its luster for me years ago. I just stick with a decent shooting load and go from there. For some reason I’ve always been able to find accurate loads fairly easily in big bore rifles. I guess maybe it’s just because I’m not as picky with the bigger calibers. MOA is plenty good for me in a buffalo rifle. lol!

That center target photo was my first 3 shots of a new 416 Rigby load. I stopped and said hallelujah! No more fiddling and I was happy about that!

I have a .375 H&H & .458 Lott Dakota Traveler (same as Parkwest Takedown) that I bought from @rookhawk and it’s a shooter. The bullseye hole on the target below is one shot I took at 100 yards off a daypack on the hood of the Landcruiser after traveling halfway around the world to Cameroon. The other hole is a shot I took several days later off the hood again to check the zero. Pretty impressive accuracy without a great rest.

Great service and communication. I just ordered another one.

Dammit. Now I want a traveler in 416 rem mag and 300 H&H or WM with a custom LOP. I saw a takedown in 416 Rigby/338 Lapua, but the Lapua does not appeal to me as a medium bore hunting rifle at all.

Any other suggestions for a medium bore that would pair well with the 416 Rigby while I’m daydreaming? I understand both cartridges have to have the same case head size and parent cartridge.

A 416 traveler with a single barrel would be lovely as well, but at that point someone may as well just get a Dark Continent.

If you were spending my money, what two cartridges would you get? I think 416 RM/300 WM or 458 Lott/375 H&H would be my front runners. Suppose a 416 RM/375H&H would be an option too especially if you shot 400 gr out of the 416 and 270 or 250 out of the 375.

I discussed this question with Steve (one of the owners) at the Dallas show a few weeks ago. For Africa hunters, the 300 H&H and 375 or 416 would be the most practical. Those cover PG to elephant and very few need a bigger gun.

I went with a .338WM to pair with either my .416 Rigby or .375 H&H.

All Dakota Safari 76’s

For Alaska I have a .375H&H and .338 WM in Winchester M70’s

Like many of you that started off with a 375 H&H, I am ready for something BIGGER. I want to stay with a bolt gun and i have decided in 458 Lott. I am looking at the Parkwest Arms Bushveld.

Any experience or feedback you can share on them?

Feel free to PM if needed.

I am ordering next week unless I can uncover any reasons not to.
I was looking into one when they were Dakota . I got wary when it went it turned to Park West. Sometimes changes like that are due to a negative aspect of their operation. Sometimes not. More Due diligence would be required of me to buy one. I learned that on Wall street. You got to dig deeper to find out if there is something more telling than the “cover story”. Still watching before I pull the trigger and get one. Let u know if I figure out anything that’s positive or negative. Good luck in your choice. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Dakota offered .400 H&H as a chambering. I do not believe Parkwest does. I think .400 H&H (if one had an adequate stock by the bullets and proper brass) and .300 H&H would be a great pairing.

Several of us here, particularly those fond of the .416 Rigby, have the extra .338 Lapua barrel/forend. I believe it is a very solid pairing. Lapua velocity with 300 grain projectiles is effectively the same as .338 WM with 250 gr. (2650ish with “common” loads).
The Lapua can obviously be loaded down as well.

For those shooting .338 Lapua in this configuration/weight, what is the recoil like? How would you compare it to the 416 Rigby?

You are quite right, it is a good pairing. The fly in the ointment is that I don’t reload. However, if I’m going to continue playing in this space I’ll have to get over that. So, I stick to quality cartridges with good hunting ammo availability. I looked online at Midway and a few others for 338 Lapua hunting ammo and was underwhelmed with the options. If you’re a reloader, it’s a non-issue.

There have been some incredible investments into .338 bullets by the military and long range community. If you can get setup to reload (and that is a dedicated effort for the 338 Lapua), the opportunities really open up.

I cannot discern a difference between .338L with 300g Accubonds (2650 fps) in an 11+ pound Dakota and .300 Weatherby (9 lb.-ish) with 180 gr. Accubonds (3150 fps). The tables likely tell a different story, but seems about the same to me.

Accubonds are good offerings in my opinion. I do know that I have seen Swift ammunition in 250 and 300 gr. Aframes. Maybbe unobtanium, but almost certain I have seen it at some point.

Thanks for the comparison. Felt recoil is quite subjective but that's helpful. I was thinking it might be like 416 Rigby recoil but faster/sharper?

A pairing of 416 Rem or Rigby and a 9.3x62 or 35 Whelen would cover all bases out to any distance I’ve ever shot in Africa. For longer range stuff pair a 300 Win or H&H with the 416.

Yes, I’d be happy with accubonds. Mostly saw target bullets and ELD-X when I looked. Nice to have a large selection of ammo when you’re using factory stuff in case the rifle is picky. I prefer controlled expansion bullets and monometals.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
