Any love for the federal terminal ascent?

I only dream I could get some, load them and shoot them. No dealer, store or internet site in Canada has ever seen bullets as far as my questions, calls and research goes.

I am an accubond guy but think the TA would "fix" my only two complaints about accubonds. TA 's have greater weight retention, and cannelure's for a crimp when loading. I have had accubonds change depth when in mag and its 2025 so the 60% weight retention should be better.

Dam why can't Federal run millions and send a full compilation to Canada. Now with what's happening I think my odds just got worse.

Keep posting your real world experience, I love reading them.

I am not a reloader and my experience with the bullets has been with their factory loaded offerings.

Even the factory loaded version is difficult to find sometimes at anything resembling a reasonable price.

I've got some on Barnes LRX on hand to try - I will let you know. Precision Hunter is also the best round so far for my 6.5CM. I usually get better groups with those than anything I've hand loaded for it.

When I couldn't get the TSX/TTSX to group as well on my 6.5CM I tried their 6.5CM Vor-TX LR, which I think uses the same bullet you mentioned and I couldn't get any better with them. But it was much more expensive, so I didn't shoot it as much trying. Again, I do know people personally who have gotten both to work great in their rifles, so I'm not knocking them.

Up here we do have and can sometimes get the Federal Premium loaded ammo with the terminal ascent. I was gifted a box when I purchased a Remington SS in 300 WSM. I shot them to sight in, could not bring myself to shoot anything with them. Have only hunted with handloads for 35+ years.

Terminal Ascent is my preferred bullet. I have taken at least 30 animals, 15 plains game animals from Duiker to kudu to Water Buck just to say a few. Several deer and lots of wild hogs. Almost always pentrates all the way through with instant expansion. Only 3 bullets recovered have been on a Large waterbuck and Blue wildebeest heavily quartering towards me, shot through shoulder and found under the skin on the rear hip. These where 300 Win Mag. The third one was when I shot a large hog and it went through one hog and hit another one behind it and found it just under the skin of the rear hog. This was 7PRC This was pest control would be more careful if other game animal. One thing neither me or my PH have ever seen the entrance wound is so violent it blows the hair off. See picture of recovered bullets from Wilderbeest and waterbuck along with Impala entrance wound.

I also like Barnes Vor-Tx with the TSX and TTSX bullets. They grouped really well in so many guns and calibers. Until I tried them in 6.5 creedmoor. None of my guns in 6.5 creedmoor would group at all with them. I have friends that had great results with them in 6.5 though.
I’ve had great results with Barnes Vor TX ammo, except for some .375 H&H ammo where the very first found we attempted to shoot was a dud. Faulty primer in factory ammo. Fortunately, it was when shooting at paper, not a buffalo.

Wow! Has that been common on entrance wounds with your TA in 300WM?

I haven't experience that in non-magnum calibers of the TA I have been shooting.

I have had a couple hides cut open on heavy quartering away smaller animals. But That didn't surprise me as I have seen that before with other ammo as well.

Rifles like what they like. When I bought my Bergara Wilderness Sierra 300WM for my first Safari last year, I tried 180gr TTSX, 180gr Norma Oryx, 180gr Nosler Partitions, 200gr Terminal Ascent… and I stopped right there. Whereas the first three were grouping ~MOA, the 200gr TA grouped ~0.5 MOA time and time again (3 shot groups off a bench) and I was consistently ringing 6-8 inch steel off sticks out to 400 yards. I was getting 2734fps out of a 22” barrel, 2652ftlbs at 200 yards. It was devastating on Texas wild hogs, and I had great confidence in it for Africa.

I took 14 animals on the safari. Kudu, gemsbok, hartebeest, warthog, blesbok, impala, bushbuck, springbok, baboon were all DRT from 100-325 yards. As long as I did my job, the others made it maybe 20 yards before they went down, including waterbuck, nyala. Only once was a bullet recovered. I was very impressed with the TA’s terminal performance, and it’s one of the first rounds I’d look at for any hunting rifle.

Would love to try them in my 300H&H, but I've never seen the Terminal Ascent or Trophy Bonded Tip for sale in SA.

Hope to try them out in my .270 soon.

I’ve seen them on the shelves locally in .270, 7mmRM, .308 & .30-06.
