Hi

A question please to all you forum members

Is there any info available where and when a Win 70 Safari Express in .375H&H was built, when the serial number is 35GZN047xx ?

Thank you in advance for your help

When I just looked, I found 1992, hopefully someone will come along and verify this or correct me.

You can call this number, ask for customer service and give them the serial number and they can give you the manufacture date.

It's going to be a BACO gun. Post 2006.
Which is good or bad?

Sorry for the maybe stupid question. As an Austrian I am much more into Mauser rifles and their history than Winchester...

I might be able to buy this rifle nonetheless.
And AFAIK no more Safari Express rifles will be delivered to Europe in .375H&H.
So I guess I will jump on that train...

Is that rifle made in Portugal? If so, buy it. I have one in 375 H&H and it is a keeper.

Not a bad thing at all.

I have a couple. Prefer the BACO to New Haven...

Definitely the serial number of a BACO gun. The barrel stamping will tell you if it was made in their South Carolina plant between 2007-2013, or afterwards in Portugal. Either origin is going to be a great gun. That customer service line should be able to tell you the specific year it was made. Call them, and let us know! Bonus points for pictures. :)

I saved these screenshots in my phone when I came across them.
they might be useful for other people, but I don’t believe yours is on this chart. As others have said it was numbered after the chart ends.

There is a serial number range spreadsheet I found through google one time

Desert Dog on YouTube has a great video on the history of M70’s. Not SN specific but good timeline on when various models were produced and from where. Looks like others have answered SN dates.

My old Safari Express was 35AZH096xx, and was a 2010's production CRF model.

It was a solid gun, it was very well made and it worked flawlessly. Not the best surface finish, but 'good enough' for the price point.

Looks like the one you are looking at is a similar vintage. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it.

If I had to guess, I'd assume that '35' is model designation, AZH / GZN is production facility + year, then the numerical bit at the end is production figure from start year.

Assuming that's correct, that would make mine:

35 - Model = Safari Express
AZ - S. Carolina plant
H - 2013 (A being 2006. Or maybe 2008?)
096xx - production number

Which does stack up with the info I have.

Yours would be:

35 - Model = Safari Express
GZ - Portugal plant
N - 2019 (ditto)
047xx - production number
