Any boxing fans?

Rico Verhoeven, arguably one of the best kickboxers of all times stops fighting for Glory (organization). Rumors are that he thinks of fighting in the UFC. He certainly will shake up the division but his ground game will be interesting. He only has one MMA fight under his belt.

I was an amateur boxer and It used to be my absolute favorite sport, but I eventually became disgusted with the level of corruption. I have never placed a bet on a sports event and never will, but the outcomes of so many of the undercards began becoming so blatantly obvious that the fix was in, that I stopped watching and haven’t watched a bout in better than 20 years.

There are a lot of shenanigans involved for sure because of the gambling. Never betted on a fight.

Boxing I watch the least except now and then a fight, mostly heavyweight. Love the kickboxing and MMA. But recently to much ground game in MMA. They need to implement to old Pride rules from Japan. The currently rules favor the wrestlers too much.

@Ihook7: I agree with you and for additional reasons -
1). because each weight class began having 5-6-7 “World Champions”ie WBA, WBC, WBO, IBA, and every other 3 letter combination you can think of.
2). They eliminated 15 round fights (down to 12) for Title bouts.
3). They went from wearing 8oz gloves up to 12oz “pillows”.
4). Heavyweight fighters started to look like a “before” ad for Weight Watchers, slow moving, threw 8 to 12 punches per round.
I now occasionally watch MMA but they are Not as skilled as previous generations of Pro Boxers (but they are damn tough) — there are No “Sugar Ray Robinsons/Leonards”, No Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, Roberto Duran, Billy Conn, Willie Pep….not even the fast (but light punching) Ali. I use to know the World Champion in every weight class from 1960s to 1980s —- but Now I couldn’t name one

Anybody watching David (Jake Paul) versus Goliath on Netflix?

Anyone give him a chance of an upset?

Don't know who the gal was who sang the National Anthem but she hit it out of the park.

I thought at first you were talking about personal boxing! Our entire athletic dept in HS had to put on gloves and pair off for "Boxing Day" The rest of the school paid ten cents to watch us go for one minute rounds--the longest minute of your life, at the time. Money went to buy new athletic equipment, they said. Coaches actually said, "I want for each of you to experience two things--I want for you to whip someone's ass, and I want for you to get your ass whipped." Still have a deviated septum from it. One family had five boys who were sparring every single day, learning to counter punch, etc. They held their own just fine.

Professional boxing? You bet--I just don't get enough of it with my tv package....
IMO, concerning MMA, there will never be anyone to match the record of Royce Gracie. If that man got his hands on you, you were doomed, no matter what size the opponent, in the then unclassified weights.

Manny Pacquiao is one of the most popular individuals in the Philippines not just as a fighter but as a man for the people. No matter where you go on Mindanao you will find his influence. Everyone wants to be associated with Manny. In politics he has been one of the few who actually represented the people who elected him. One morning you might see him or his wife at coffee at McDonalds in Gensan. The next day at a church service in the small community of Malungon. Ask about an elementary school in an isolated mountain village and find out he initiated the funding to build the school. He has done a lot of work for the average citizen, especially those in the poorest areas. My niece and nephews place is across the road from his original upscale family house and compound in Gensan. I think more recently his primary residence is just outside Gensan on Sarangani Bay. He is one of the self made successful super sports figures who has turned that money and fame into something very positive. An admirable quality, not common to a lot of super sports “heros”. But, I would not want to be in his shoes no matter all that fame and money. Can you imagine being constantly hounded by groupies and leeches… ughh
Completely agree, but--it's time for him to stay out of the ring, lest he become like Ali--a Parkinson nightmare.

@Tundra Tiger - I like Boxing and use to love it - could name the Champions in most weight classes from the 1970s until the 90s …but then it became a mess and Now it’s a Joke. I’m getting desperate to see a fighter with some real “skill” - you know, not a Fat Pig, that’s out of breath by round 2 and can’t throw more then 5 a round or 50 punches in the entire fight, also maybe go back to 15 rounds for Championship fights and 8oz gloves vs. the “pillows” worn today ! Yes, I am a bitter & desperate former fan - just Not desperate enough to watch Jake Paul fight someone in a Nursing Home. The amateurs in Olympics and NY Golden Gloves seem more highly skilled.

Well, saw the clip of Paul getting knocked out. First time he fights a legit boxer and he finds out. That said credit to Paul to go into the ring with a genuine great boxer like Joshua.

@DieJager - NOW I will watch a rerun of that fight, satisfying to see him Unable to beat any legitimate boxer in his weight class. I give him credit for “Knowing how to make $$” and create enough interest in his fights for people to Pay-to-see-them but thats as much a result of his Promotional skills as it is the sad state of pro boxing.
I don’t like MMA as much as I use to like boxing but at least it is “real competition”. I don’t like seeing Women fight in any type of competition, seeing two women punch each other in the face, bleed, get hurt —- bothers me….but its better then Women's Soccer or Women's Basketball which is like watching Boys High School teams in “Slow motion”.

Paul posted an X-ray of his double broken jaw on social media. They each will receive 92 million apiece.

@BJH65 - so does Jake Paul have a Glass Jaw? Or did he have his mouth open breathing when he got punched (out of shape)?, or was there a Horse shoe in the other boxer’s glove??

He had his mouth open, he was gasping for air.

I dunno, but for the first time he was in with a legitimate, skilled boxer, a former 2 time heavyweight champion significantly larger than him. I watched the fight, seemed Joshua wasn’t trying too hard, at least initially, maybe carrying the fight a little bit? I don’t think Paul was out of shape and I think he took Joshua’s punches well enough, I think he was in way over his head. That’s a likely scenario, getting punched with his mouth open causing the broken jaw. Gloves and hand wraps are inspected. Hey they both get 92 million apiece, fans were entertained, both are set for life, Jake Paul can go on to other things now hopefully.

He looked like a fool the whole fight, clumsy and afraid. Out of shape and grabbing the champs waist and legs to keep from getting hit. He got what he deserved.
1. A broken jaw to shut him up
2. Enough money to never have to lift a finger the rest of his life-give credit where it is due

No, enough money to last the average person for life....we've all seen rich fighters go broke in no time, especially with untrustworthy managers.

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
