Hello txtrout75218,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

As for any restrictions against bringing a lever action rifle to South Africa, that is something I have not heard before.
Certainly Namibia does not prohibit lever action rifles.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

Although I side with the idea that anything we can do to weaken / defeat Russia, I believe Biden has handled Ukraine wrong. IMO, we should have provided Ukraine with some F16’s, tanks, missiles and whatever other weapons Ukraine needed in a one shot deal so they could have ended this. No cash:. Ukraine is corrupt.
What I don’t condone is Biden not protecting the border… A lot of the fencing is there, waiting to be erected. He F’ed up the withdrawl from Afghanistan that cost 13 lives and left billions of $$$ worth of weapons behind with the Taliban (Hell, if we just gave Ukraine those weapons, we’d be done with this Ukraine war). He allows a Chinese spy ballon cross NA from Alaska, thru Canada, loiter over Montana and then cross the rest of the US. And now this disaster 100 miles east of me in East Palestine OH of which neither he nor anyone from the WH has shown up. The SOR is low and he keeps selling it off.
This guy is an stumbling, bumbling disaster.

I'm read that you can't import lever action rifles in the RSA hunting section of this Board. I'll research more.

As for those that have offered help, I appreciate that and will reach out.

Just taking a moment to introduce myself. Live in Dallas, grew up bird hunting over hunting med/big game. Mostly since it was mostly Quail and Doves where I lived, along with rabbits and the occasional other critter. All the mule deer and elk were long gone before I was born and we're exterminated when my great grandfather move into the panhandle area.in 1900. Now the area is thick with whitetails. Starting to take up hunting Texas Dangerous Game - wild hogs.

Planning on my first trip to South Africa in 2024 or 2025 with Numzaan Safaris since they cater to non-hunters. Still working on the timing, etc. My wife and teenage daughter are going with me, this is a place that has more than hunting for them. Another friend and his wife may also go.

Focused on a few medium plains animals, perhaps one of the larger antelopes. I currently plan to take a Mauser 30-06 (180 to 200 grain) and perhaps my 7-mm 08 (120 to 140.grain), my deer and elk rifles. Unless a Ruger #1 in 30-06 finds it's way into the house.

Robert

Welcome! Lots of us Texans on AH. If you have not joined Dallas Safari Club, you should seriously consider joining. The annual conventions each January is a great resource for planning a hunt in Africa.

Welcome from another DFW member.

I've also hunted with Numzaan and had a fantastic trip with them. Very nice facilities where we stayed, great service getting us picked up and returned to and through airport, and a good job of listening to us hunters for what, where, and how we wanted to hunt.

Feel free to PM me if youd like any more info about my experience with them.

Welcome to AH! Have fun planning! Let us know if you have any questions...

Welcome to AH from small town Idaho. I’m excited for you that you and your family will be going to Africa! What great memories you will make. Honestly, it changed my life. I am a non hunter who joined my husband in Tanzania. Even though I was skeptical of hunting african wildlife at first, I joined him on every hunt and came home with an entirely different perspective and passion.

Good day!! Welcome to AH!!

I'm the only hunter. My daughter likes to shoot, but only considers hunting hogs, for as she says, they are ugly... She doesn't hunt deer, but will go on a bird hunt. She enjoys shooting paper and other inanimate objects.

As for a Ruger #1, larger than a 30-06 would be super specialized for me to have. The 7mm-08, 308, 30-06 are more practical for me to have and use. And perhaps a .243 in a Ruger #1. Was all I could do to not pick up one in Manlicher stock yesterday. I love the look of single shots.
LOL "...only considers hunting hogs, for as she says, they are ugly...." I've heard that rationale before. My benchmate, who now lives in the DFW area calls me a "savage redneck", but once admitted that, "[m]an, I'd kill the sh*t out of turkeys; those things are the ugliest thing's I've ever seen!"

Welcome to AH!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
