Animal you wouldn't hunt

There are many animals I could not shoot. The key ones are big cats(tigers and cheetahs in particular) giraffes, koalas, and penguins.
Australian native animals - generally No although I’ve shot w professional kangaroo shooters.
I have shot literally hundreds of kangaroos and wallaroos.
The latter are black and stout and their skins are not really good as mats etc.
Don’t think I could shoot tiny antelope.
Dolphins - never!!

Elephant. I don't want to hunt elephant. IMO, they're too intelligent and too familial for me to be comfortable killing one. I'm not opposed to anyone else hunting elephant (legally of course) but it's not something I feel comfortable doing.

There are more than a few animals I'm not interested in hunting. Hippo, apes and the Tiny 10 for example but disinterest isn't the same as morally uncomfortable. I would be morally uncomfortable killing an elephant for sport. That's me and only me and NOT an indictment of those who feel differently. I absolutely do not have any negative judgement towards anyone that legally and ethically hunts elephant. It's just not something I will do.

I also recognize that I'm spectacularly inconsistent. I have no problem killing other sentient game but for some reason the idea of me killing an elephant doesn't sit well with my conscience. YMMV

Coyotes and feral hogs. I kill them with no regard to sport.

Cats , exception- lynx

Bonk,
That is a very introspective response. The way I see it, no one flies to Africa, or anywhere for that matter, to kill an animal because they are hungry. We do what we do because of passion, and within the bounds of the law an individuals passion is there own. It SHOULDN"T be logical, if it is then you aren't really touching the part of yourself we are all looking for in the field or on the water.

To me there is a difference between an aversion to hunting/killing something and a lack of interest in doing so. But in the understood theme of the OP/thread only one group stands out. I won't hunt or shoot a primate. Only self defense would justify it for me and that includes Homo sapiens :)

In a discussion with other hunters I often hear what they could never ever hunt because of various emotional reasons.

A good friend of mine is a horse rider and could not shoot at a zebra, it´s too much like a horse.

An other hunting pal of me hates seeing hunting pictures of baboons or monkeys, because for hin there are our close relatives and look and behave too much like a human being.

In my own hunting area it´s "normal" to shoot young animals, excpecially boars or foxes - I could never shoot a baby animal, maybe bacause I´m a woman?

In Africa I had plenty of possibilities shooting jackals... I can´t do this, for me they are looking like stray dogs and I´m a dog owner. No way killig one!
A cheetah for me looks so gentle and harmless, I would feel bad shooting one.

What about you? Any species you couldn´t pull the trigger?

I'm only interested in killing animals that I will eat or use in some other practical manner, that I need to control for social reasons, or that I need to defend myself against. I found cougar unappealing enough that I am not interested in eating any other cat.

In the event that I am in Africa and there is a chance at a problem cat, I would love to have the skin made into a rug to spread over my footboard, but other than that the only cats I kill on sight are feral or cougar in the vicinity of livestock. As stated by others, manage the recourses how you and your passions see fit.

The only thing I can think of. Everything else is in trouble.

I never thought of shooting elephant until I saw the destruction that they did to a village in Namibia and the overpopulation of the species in Botswana in 2013. I probably never will get the opportunity now either with the high cost. Eland or hippo have never done it for me either.
