Am I the only one....

The rifle and scope should be on the same plane so that the scope is always on top if you set it up so there is cant it will at some point not be accurate as when you dial for elevation it will move in windage. That why a long range target test is needed to confirm tracking. If you don't shoot past 400 it's not a big issue. If you shoot further then it should matter to you! There are videos out there to help the only cost is ammo and time.
And that is the whole point--if cant is induced, accuracy at range will be affected. Question is how to know if it IS perfectly level.

The easiest solution is to buy rail mounted scopes.

I would spend over an hour getting a scope perfectly aligned and level using traditional rings. When I switched to rail mounted scopes, the entire project took about 10 minutes and the scope is perfect every time.
That is only as hard as getting Anglophiles to use the metric system--I'm not sure area gunsmiths speak the language of rail scopes/have any parts to mount same....

My problem is getting crosshairs aligned vertically. I do every rifle the same, and they are all wrong in EXACTLY the same manner, no matter how hard I try. When I am setting the crosshairs, tweaking them and tightening sequentially, etc. I think at the time, "I've got it just right"....but later when I shoulder the gun, it is always a hair over to the left!
no you are not, i would set up scope by "eye" and would always be tilted off a few degrees because of how i shoulder the rifle. my little brother looked thru my scope once and said "you mounted this scope didn't you? its crooked" :)

i use levels now, but still funny.

and a vise or other means of holding the gun steady.

Admittedly, both my rifle and scope are European which makes things easier because they were designed to go together. And the R8 doesn't need a bridge over the loading port to make it work which is a big plus. Not sure how it would work on a traditional bolt action rifle.
