Alec Baldwin Movie Set Accident

If Baldwin was a conservative he’d have been in jail for at least 6 months awaiting trial for felony murder. New Mexico is a leftist stronghold and democrats don’t eat their own. I’ll be completely shocked if he faces any charges at all. The prop master will go down for negligent homicide or no one does.

If he sets a precedent, that person who fired a gun is not guilty but others in chain of gun handling, it could be dangerous.

Why isn't Baldwin in jail?

This is nothing more than a deflection designed to put him in a more favorable light. A defensive ploy trying to throw others under the bus. I see part of his suit is to recapture what he had to pay to the family of the lady he shot. His hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Alec Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was the armorer on the film ‘Rust,’ was also charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Halyna's family thanked the sheriff's office and the DA after the charges were announced.

"We want to thank the Santa Fe Sheriff and the District Attorney for concluding their thorough investigation and determining that charges for involuntary manslaughter are warranted for the killing of Halyna Hutchins with conscious disregard for human life," a statement issued on behalf of the Hutchins Family via attorney Brian J. Panish, Founding Partner of Panish | Shea | Boyle | Ravipudi LLP.

"Our independent investigation also supports charges are warranted. It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law. We support the charges, will fully cooperate with this prosecution, and fervently hope the justice system works to protect the public and hold accountable those who break the law."

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced the charges Thursday morning, more than a year after Hutchins' tragic death.

Assistant director Dave Halls signed a plea agreement for a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon. The terms of his agreement included a suspended sentence and six months of probation, the district attorney announced.

No charges were filed in the non-fatal shooting of director Joel Souza.

"After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew," New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said in a statement. "On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice."

The district attorney explained that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed were "charged in the alternative." This means that a jury will decide not only if the two are guilty but will also decide which definition of involuntary manslaughter their actions fall under.

"If any one of these three people – Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls – had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. It’s that simple," Andrea Reeb, the special prosecutor appointed by the DA to the case, said in a statement. "The evidence clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for safety on the ‘Rust’ film set. In New Mexico, there is no room for film sets that don’t take our state’s commitment to gun safety and public safety seriously."

Before announcing the decision, the district attorney's office spent time reviewing a comprehensive report submitted by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office. . .

Glad to see this but the State of New Mexico is much more concerned with their film industry than justice being served. I hope to stand corrected at the end of this but I have a feeling I won’t have to.

I’m astounded that they filed manslaughter charges! I would have bet money that the DA would determine there is insufficient evidence. A win for the cause of justice. I don’t see them dropping the charges, so now it will be decided by a jury. I’m interested in seeing how this plays out.

His interview with Stephanopoulos will be red meat for the prosecution. If it goes to the jury, they will see his arrogance and irresponsibility. Hard to overcome the fact that he is a dislikeable ass. The fact that 2 parties have been charged will be like 2 lions fighting over a fresh kill.

I too am glad to see charges filed against Baldwin and the armorer. I think a contributing factor is that Baldwin was also the producer and responsible for the entire set.
IMO, the armorer was culpable for allowing live rounds on the set and not institututimg stricter protocols involving firearm safety. Baldwin should have made sure he had an experienced armorer(s) on set in addition to violating every rule of firearm safety.
I fear he’ll get a slap on the wrist and the armorer will take the fall when they both have onus in this tragedy and Baldwin actually pulled the trigger.

@Nomadx2
And Baldwin will blame it ALL on the armourer. If she did her job properly it would never have happened and other crap.
FACT is he should have checked the weapon as well, he pointed it at a person and HE pulled the trigger.
Saying he didn't pull the trigger is akin to Bill Clinton say " I did not have sexual relations with that woman". A load croc shit.

He will plead out to a lesser charge and no jail. My opinion.
If he's smart he will. He will never agree to time. If what I read is correct, with the weapon charged added, that's a 5 year mandatory sentence, instead of a 18 month maximum. But he will be telling his lawyer: but I did not do anything wrong, and the jury will believe me.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
