Airline Approved Gun Cases

I have always put my ammo in locked box bought from Tuffpak in my duffle thought you could not put ammo in same case with rifle
I did the same - I was told by South Africa Air to pack it this way

Tuffpak for sure. Yes the bulk of carriers require ammo and rifle to be separate...but not all.

I was looking at adding a Tuffpak, use Pelican right now. But....read in a thread somewhere on AH that some airline (Delta maybe) is now prohibiting clothes and other items packed with firearms. This would defeat the purpose. Maybe someone with a better memory or better search abilities can chime in? I thought I would wait a few months then research this question. I love the Tuffpak concept.

KLM prevented me from packing any clothing in it. But, I put a second cheap guncase in and filled it with shooting accessories, such as glasses, cleaning supplies etc. That was deemed ok

@Pheroze, thanks for the comment and clarification. Sounds like you are happy with Tuffpak! I'll give them a try as well. As for the original post....this could be a great option.

That's crazy. We are flying them in September. Hopefully we don't run into same thing.

It was odd. I was speaking to two ladies. One used to work for Delta and she recognized it. The other one out ranked her and told me it was not allowed:mad:

I've never had an issue but all it takes is one person. Flying through Amsterdam with guns is stressful enough! I'll throw an extra duffle in just in case.

Just a heads up, Cabela's has Pelicans on sale. The gun case Pelicans, not the ones that hop around and can't fly. :)

Thanks for the heads up Hogpatrol. Heading to the website now.

I checked the website and didn't see the sale. It may have been a store specific promotion. I get flyers in the mail from them and the store is less than ten miles from my home. Sorry if that didn't work out for you.

I Like the Nanuk cases, Have also pelicase and Explorer.

Looking for recommendations on airline approved gun cases
My Pelican two gun case has been on more international trips than I can remember. As good as it has worked for me I see no reason to use any other brand. Everyone will chime in with their opinion and when arriving at JNB you will see ALL kinds of cases!
Have fun shopping but I hope you will come back to Pelican.
Regards,
Philip

Tuffpak.
I have been on safari with one and traveled in the US. GFEAT for being able to stash LOTS of extra gear. They don't weigh much so you aren't wasting your baggage allowance.
Check out their video.
We have been selling them for @ a year now - Zero complaints!

Feel free to call or write if you want to pick my brain more...
Be cautious on what you put in your gun case. I like to put all kinds of Xtra stuff/gear in mine but on the Delta flight to JNB two months ago the gate agent read me the bulletin that stated "no clothing in gun case". It didn't prohibit anything else but clothing. I feel this rule negates some of the value of Tuffpak cases going to Africa. Of course I am an unapologetic Pelican fan!
Just passing this along from my experience.
Philip

No clothing? I wonder why. Maybe for TSA agents so they don't have to dig through the clothes when checking the contents and then have to repack them along with the guns in the proper order? Sorry, but from this chair, the Tuffpak is a non starter if it needs to be additionally packed with a bunch of stuff to keep the guns from banging around inside. As usual YMMV.

I've seen some eastern European hunters arriving in Joburg with the ammo in the Luggage.... indeed separated:)

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
