AH Get Together Anchorage Alaska 2015

thanks Velo, its not the end of the world if i cant make this one. been up there twice this year already and will likely be up there again in the future.

one of these years i just need to move up to AK! i get the feeling id like living there a whole lot more then WA. at the moment the only thing really holding me back is my job.

-matt

Sounds good Matt.
Nonetheless, I will let you know if I find you a place to stay, etc.
Likewise, I can keep my ear to the rail for any available jobs up here.
However, things in Alaska are sliding down lately, since oil has now hit $45. a barrel and so, jobs are drying up fast.
It needs to be at least $75. a barrel and at least remaining steady, better yet climbing.
And $100. a barrel is much safer.
Such is part of the reason I am continually having to put off my plan to hunt Africa again.
Originally I had planned to go in 2016, then perhaps 2017 and now, even that is not looking good for me at the moment, oye vey.
I am blessed to have gone 4 times and many I know will never be able to go once so, I have nothing to gripe about.

funny you say that, i was just looking at my finances trying to figure out how i can go to Africa again next year... not looking good. i really need my Searcy double to com back so i can sell it and take care of a couple debts ive built up. i think ill also part with that double i bought from Akmike so between the two i will be fully out of debt.

maybe next year ill just do a PG hunt to keep costs down. there are a couple of animals that are on my "want" list that i could do for a reasonable price. but hippo and elephant are calling to me...

Evidently great minds really do think alike, because not only am I unable to afford another safari at the moment but, I might have to sell some rifles, including my double, to even get close to putting together another safari, a couple years down the road.
Furthermore, just like yourself, my interest has for a couple years now been toward hippo on land or tusk-less/management type elephant permit.
However the reality is that, even if I ever do make it over to you know where again, my bank account might only withstand a general antelope and pig hunt.
(We should have been born extremely rich instead of extremely good looking).

Rumor has it that one can love a wealthy woman just as easily as one can love a poor one.

So, you guys are all going to have a great time, on my birthday !!!!!

Unfortunately I am too far away to make it :D Cheers:

Nyati,

Likely I will forget to say it on the Twenty Fourth so, I will say it on this day instead.

Happy Birthday, 22 days in advance.

Cheers,
Velo Dog

Good Morning Alaska,

If you count today (Oct-15), this is a Ten Day Reminder for the AH Get Together at my house (Anchorage).

Details:
Saturday October 24th @ 4:00 PM.
I am supplying pizzas.
There will be plenty of ice and glasses for pouring your favorite refreshments into.

There already is a fair amount of refreshments on hand here, left over from the last grumpy old man / end of summer party, plus the usual supply of "liquid survival rations" generally on hand, down stairs in the "Safari Bar".
But bring whatever you prefer to drink so that you will be sure to have what you like.

Women are welcome.
With my apology, children are not welcome.

If you want to bring your favorite safari rifle as a conversation piece, please do.
I have rifle racks screwed to wall studs in the bar, to place firearms in so that nobody will trip over them and scratch them up, etc.

I plan to post one or two more reminders next week.

PM me for directions and RSVP (so I can have enough pizzas for everyone).

Cheerio,
Paul (Velo Dog) & Kelley.
(Kelley is my wife and my girlfriend - it's a lot less stressful that way).

Hey Velo Dog,
it's to sad,that Im 8.000 KM away.
Would have got to know you with pleasure personally.
Furthermore I was this summer on a Pizza Party from an other AH Member and I must say that was very interesting and entertaining.
Greetings from Munic

Hi Foxi,

Judging by the people in your party photo, we now know why your screen name is Foxi.

I wish you (and your friends) could be be here next week.

Too bad that Munic and Anchorage are so far apart because I agree with you that we would get along well (I'm old, but I'm not blind).

Cheers,
Velo Dog

Paul: I will show up around 4 and depart early for the long drive home and fill my wood stove. I'll bring a rifle or two and a few of my books. Something Matt will like--my 8-bore Jeffery box lock shooting 900-grain balls will equal the velocity of a .600 nitro which also shoots projectiles of 900 grains. I thought when selling this gem one could make a set of .600 barrels to add-on, but with the new revelation, why not shoot 2 1/2 ounces of shot at turkey, moderate 8s at moose and buffalo, and 600 par for elephant and hippo. I may bring this old boat anchor along.
Second question from your post above about the Mrs. not being fond of children. Well, then, it it OK to bring Mike Brooks? lol
Contact Rob Seymour, Ron Williams, Chuck Macheney, Brett Brringer, We'll all take turns sitting Mike.
Cal
PS. The girl in the yellow able, that's Shootaway. You really ain't missing much.

Cal,

I look forward to seeing you, as no doubt the others do as well.
Seriously let me know how many others (including Mike brooks - he is of course welcome) besides yourself that I am not yet aware of and who might show up, so that I can have enough pizzas for everyone (Moose's Tooth requested I notify them on Friday night exactly how many pizzas I want to pick up on Saturday afternoon for this shindig).

Cheers,
Paul.

Wish I could join you....but an 8000km flight is too much and as Velo mentioned low crude oil prices is taking its toll, here too..

Sure I would love your company...and me fondling Cals .600 Wilkes would been an experience to remember...

Wish you could be here as well Pondoro.
If you ever do plan a trip to Alaska, I recommend it when Cal is organizing a double rifle shoot.
There are some very fine doubles and single shots at those casual events plus, you would meet other hunters with similar ideas to your own.

Cal,

PS:
To further answer your question about my wife not being especially fond of children these days, she said something about not wanting her new pup injured or, chewing gum mashed into her zebra rug or, soda pop on the ceiling, etc., etc.

Velodog... I´ll be present in spirit!...
Good meeting and enjoy the time spend together!

Marcos my friend,

I wish our countries were closer together.
We would have much fun with our hunting and fishing and I surely would get better in speaking Spanish.
During this party, we will not forget that you are with us in spirit.
Tambien, I plan to take fotos.
My wife can help me post these in the Forum (I am not very good with computers).

Salud !
Velo Dog.

Que tengan UNA BUENA FIESTA, amigo!...
Thanks for you´re words...
I am waiting the photos!(y)

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
