African giraffe faces extinction after population dropped 40%...

The old philosophy has some truth to it, "SAY A LIE LONG ENOUGH AND EVENTUALLY IT BECOMES THE TRUTH".

Well if all goes well when we get back in 2016 I will have the kid take one now.I will help them have one less to count to make it easier on there dumb ass counters.

I think we have it covered now...

I going to have to hide the 2 i have now...

Yes I agree.

Another factor though is that they might use half truths. Look at the countries they listed as where the giraffe are endangered:

Somalia- its a very unstable country which had a huge civil war, its possible this has severely reduced giraffe populations- ie the various warring factions might kill them for food. But all of a country's resources are adversely affected by civil wars- they are profoundly destructive. I doubt a lot or any sport hunting happens there.

Kenya- has banned hunting for decades now and gone from a game rich country to one whose game populations have been severely depleted by poaching, think elephants. It has really mismanaged this resource.

Ethiopia- I don't know much about it but I don't think its a particularly popular destination for giraffe hunters or that many giraffes are taken there by sport hunters.

So 2/3 country's where giraffes might be disappearing don't have any sport hunting of giraffes and 1 might have very limited hunting of this animal.

Now lets take a look at the other side of the coin, and where most giraffe hunting takes place, in southern Africa. These countries all have healthy populations of giraffe so much so to the point culling goes on- they've exceeded their carrying capacity. Funny how the article doesn't mention this, that the countries which have the largest sport hunting giraffe markets also have the healthiest populations of this animal.

Nope, no Giraffe in Hwange Park. Spent 4 days and drove around 500km in the park and the only large animal I saw more of then giraffe were elephants. Would seriously question the credibility to a degree. However, would believe that in some countries the giraffe may be threatened.

On one concession the owner had just sold off a truck load because he had in his words "too many". These animals are not endangered!

Giraffa camelopardalis could face the same chance at extinction as the black rhino, mountain gorilla and African elephant as its numbers dwindle across Africa. The species has lost about 40% of its population — which now stands at about 80,000 to poaching and hunting.

This article has certainly been intentionally written in a way to mislead the reader...

The common Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is far from being endangered and surely does not face extinction, as a matter of fact the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species puts the parent species Giraffa camelopardalis in the category of Least Concern.

"Provisionally listed as Least Concern as the species remains widespread, with a total population numbering more than 100,000 individuals." See more info on Giraffa camelopardalis at http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/full/9194/0.

One should know however that subspecies classifications have been assessed for Giraffe and as a result two subspecies have been classified, the Niger Giraffe, Nigerien Giraffe or West African Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis ssp. peralta) and the Rothschild’s Giraffe or Ugandan Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis ssp. rothschildi). Both these species are listed by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as endangered.

"Listed as Endangered as the total population size of this subspecies is estimated at less than 200 individuals although currently increasing under targeted conservation programmes." See more info on Giraffa camelopardalis ssp. peralta at http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/136913/0.

"Current estimates of population size are well below 2,500 mature individuals, numbers are declining overall and no subpopulation is estimated to contain more than 250 mature individuals. The population is potentially close to meeting the population threshold for Critically Endangered under criterion C, depending on the number of individuals, if any, that survive in south Sudan." See more info on Giraffa camelopardalis ssp. rothschildi at http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/174469/0.

Thank you for the clarification Jerome!

But to the lefty-environmental crowd in the US and Europe every animal in Africa is on the brink of extinction! Humanity, especially white people, are to blame for this of course.

This sentiment is also a byproduct of our education system. I remember a teacher telling us that every day an area the size of Great Britain is deforested in the Brazil rainforest, when I questioned this she looked at my like I had two heads for daring to question the environmental brainwashing. Today I realize just how ridiculous that is, but you can imagine young people buying into it.

Sadly, it's hard to change people's misconceptions about things like this since the average person has been told thousands of times that evil hunters have driven animals to the brink of extinction.

That's awful the way a teacher would lie like that and spread propaganda. Out of curiosity I googled land area of Brazil and then of Great Britain. You get the following numbers: Brazil has 8,515,767 square kms, while Great Britain has 229,848. 8,515,767/228,848 = 37.05. So if all of Brazil's land mass was covered by tropical rainforest, which it most certainly is not, then in 37 days or in the time span of one month and a week all of Brazil would be deforested if that rate of deforestation where true. Meaning by now all of Brazil's rainforests should be long gone .

how do you expect them to make a reasonable count when they have their heads either stuck up their ass or under the bonnet of a land rover trying to keep it running!:A Drive::A Blowup:

I just had a woman post on my facebook page, that I was evil and she is reporting me to the authorities..... I think any thing with the world ANTI is evil.... they make up numbers, stories with no documentation.... we do more good for the earth then the ANTI's....

This article was written and submitted by an anti Journalist, there is truth to a degree but it's more a case of loss of habitat than trophy hunting.

Giraffe have lost significant ground in 7 of they're former home ranges where they now no longer occur, this has brought about a significant drop in total specie population.

However warping the truth and reality such as this journalist has done is very irresponsible to say the least.

I do have access to the factual research and will post it in a couple of days.

My best always

Thanks Jaco I would love to read it I do get tired of the :S Bs Flag: from anti's. If they don't like hunting then they don't have to hunt no one is making them.:Rage:

I definitely do not agree with those bogus research numbers. They obviously weren't in Limpopo when they did their research! LOL!!! What a load of bull!

If anyone ever wants to spot the nearly extinct Giraffe, you are welcome to come to Limpopo, SA. :ROFLMAO:(y)

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
