Africa is just not for me

I grew up in the country on a dirt road. My grandmother had 110 acres or so and I would walk out the house and go shoot squirrels with my .410 at 11 years old. I soon started joining family hunting turkey and deer with dogs. I didn’t miss a day hunting deer with dogs for 10 years. So my background is small game, whitetail, and turkey. I have been on hunts where 80 deer were killed on one hunt. I had no problem or reservations about shooting multiple animals in a day when I went to Africa this year. It was an awesome hunt and I feel it would get better each time I go. Do your research and if not for this forum I wouldn’t have gone. I have told several people about this forum. My next hunts in Africa will be in different areas but I can already tell that track hunts would be absolutely awesome. Basically my waterbuck hunt turned into a track hunt after I made a low shot this year. It was a fantastic experience and ended with me shooting the waterbuck while the dog was baying him. In my mind that hunt took me back to my routes. Each hunt was like a trip in and of itself. And the eastern cape kind of reminded me of what i have seen in my life of reminisce of the old south. That was cool as well. I don’t want to knock solo hunting but a group hunt where folks can enjoy the hunt together is hard to beat. I solo hunt turkeys all the time and still would rather go with family, friends to make memories.

Limpopo Province SA and likely a good mix of plains game animals like it seems many first timers do. Package includes a mix of 4 animals per hunter then would likely add 3 or so of Kudu (gotten expensive!), Gemsbuck, Eland, Nyala, Bushbuck.

WAB south east Arkansas apparently has more white tail deer than Alabama. On my 20 minute ride to work during daylight hours I see deer virtually every day going and coming. Last week I had to stop for a doe in my lane nursing a fawn then saw another fawn on her other side Two days later there was a yearling about 1/4 a mile up the road that did not make it across the road. Lol, there are higher limits. I wouldn't use that as a baseline for population.

I would agree with this, at one time Alabama had the second most whitetail behind Texas, I know our population has come down some it is more in line with carrying capacity now. When I had access to prime land in the black belt ( a band of extremely rich dark top soil ) I could have shot a limit of deer a day. At the time 2 deer a day but only 1 could be a buck. Now our limit is a deer a day and a limit of 3 bucks on top of an antler less deer for a total of something like 115 deer a year. If I remember correctly the liberal limits were implemented to appease car insurance companies that were tired of paying out deer / car claims.

I’ve not come close to hunting Africa, but I would. I’m just starting some research, even at the lower end of target animals. I’ve heard that Africa is comparable or even cheaper than some of those Alaskan hunts? Not sure if that’s true, yes much depends on the type of hunt.

I don’t think you’ll get near a legal griz in AK for under $15k likely more. We all know moose taste much better.

You can hunt quite a few animals in Africa for less than 15K.

15 grand would be a great budget for a hunt in Africa, I'll probably have about 12 grand into my first hunt by the time I pay shipping. I'd take the eight animals I got in RSA over a 50/50 shot at one griz any day. I might have a different point of view if I was wealthy but that is definitely not the case. Africa is by far the best international hunting deal on the planet.

Gladly I do not own a 6.5 man bun.

But just think because of the shipping cost now days to get the trophies home along with the headaches of air travel how about a virtual reality big game hun. There you can shoot anything that you want and have photo shopped photo of you and your trophy.

All this and ever having to leave home.
