If someone was worried about some number 8 shot going into the ocean they certainly don't won't to know about all the stuff we shot out into the water when I was a Weapons Officer in the Navy!![]()
I doubt the main issue was the #8, but rather the plastic wads, as most Cruise ships have a nothing overboard policy. Plastic that doesn't dissolve is a bad idea in the ocean.
In those years you might have had 2500 Guests onboard the largest ships, now we have up to 6500, with access to video and fast internet and of course the use of guns onboard, available for guests to use, although under supervision is a sensitive subject. I don't see it returning any time soon.
And no, most people don't know what is going on cargo and Navy ships, but since there are so many guests on Cruise ships, the media is on the industry so much more. So, No, they probably don't want to know what goes overboard on ships around the world.
We see it all over with regular garbage as well. Some cultures have not an issue with throwing things out of the car to lie around the roads, while others cringe of the fact that it happens.
As conservationists, we need to take care of nature regardless if it is in parks, deserts, small animals, insects, bees, mammals, or the ocean. At the end of the day it all matters.
