I used to love bringing my nice wood stocked rifles into the field... till one of them spent 4 days in a scabbard on the side of a horse in Wyoming... Working rifles for me thanks. I agree. If you want a rifle to hunt with that works and shoots well, get a Winchester. If you want a rifle as a safequeen/eye candy/status symbol, that's a hunter's prerogative, but it won't kill any better than the Winchester and keeping that stinkin' horse from brushing it against every tree (as they are want to do) won't be anywhere near as stressful. Practicality has won out for me in the end. I actually now have a stainless Ruger Guide Gun in .375 Ruger because I wanted a gun I could go anywhere with and not worry about the stock and bluing getting messed up (...stinkin' horses). You could have a custom build for a lot less and it'd be a better, more accurate rifle to boot. It may not have super wood but wood hasn't killed any animals. Not interested? CZ, Winchester or others will kill just as good as a high dollar, bragging rights, niche rifle.
My Toyota gets me to work the same as the guy in the Mercedes AMG black. Same with rifles.
